Job Summary

Job Title:Coordinator for Secondary Social Studies Wage/Hour Status:Exempt

Reports to: Executive Director of AcademicsPay Grade:Admin Pay 5

Supervises: N/A

Primary Purpose:Support the districts mission to ensure academic success by designing implementing and supporting a rigorous vertically aligned secondary social studies program (grades 612). Provide instructional leadership and direct support to teachers and campus instructional staff to improve student achievement civic literacy and college career and military readiness (CCMR) including EOC preparation and advanced coursework while ensuring alignment to district priorities state standards and elementary social studies foundations.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Masters degree preferred.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate.
  • Supervision or Mid-management certificate preferred.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of Texas Secondary Social Studies TEKS and STAAR/EOC requirements
  • Understanding of research-based instructional strategies for secondary social studies
  • Knowledge of CCMR indicators and secondary assessment systems
  • Understanding of advanced coursework structures (Honors AP IB)
  • Ability to analyze student performance data and instructional evidence to inform action
  • Experience supporting curriculum development assessment design and instructional resources
  • Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and grade spans

Experience:

  • Five (5) years of successful elementary classroom teaching experience preferably in social studies
  • Experience presenting professional development and facilitating PLCs

Instructional and Program Support:

  • Design revise and maintain secondary social studies curriculum documents aligned to TEKS district YAGs and instructional expectations
  • Ensure coherence and alignment of secondary social studies curriculum across middle and high school campuses
  • Collaborate with elementary social studies coordinator to ensure vertical alignment and strong foundational readiness
  • Participate in the evaluation selection and implementation of instructional materials and digital resources
  • Develop and curate high-quality instructional resources within EduHub and other district platforms
  • Support the districts embedded instructional framework (AVID WICOR) through secondary social studies instruction
  • Model disciplinary literacy inquiry collaboration and academic discourse in secondary classrooms
  • Provide job-embedded coaching and instructional support to teachers and campus leaders
  • Support implementation of rigorous instructional practices aligned to civic literacy and historical thinking
  • Support campus-based and district PLCs
  • Facilitate data-informed PLC conversations tied to curriculum instruction and assessment
  • Plan and deliver targeted professional development aligned to district priorities and identified needs
  • Develop tools exemplars pacing guidance and instructional supports for secondary social studies courses
  • Analyze STAAR/EOC data formative assessment results and classroom evidence to identify trends and gaps
  • Support campuses in developing and implementing EOC and STAAR preparation strategies aligned to curriculum and data
  • Assist campuses in implementing social studies interventions within MTSS frameworks and HB 1416 requirements
  • Participate in Data and Academic Tours and instructional walkthroughs to gather evidence of implementation and impact
  • Support campuses in translating data findings into instructional actions and targeted support plans
  • Support advanced social studies coursework including Honors AP and IB programs in collaboration with Advanced Academics leadership
  • Collaborate with the Luminous Minds (Secondary GT) program to support rigorous instruction and advanced learning opportunities
  • Support equitable access instructional quality and alignment across advanced secondary social studies courses
  • Analyze participation and performance data for advanced social studies pathways to inform instructional supports

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with district coordinators specialists and departments to support aligned science instruction
  • Work closely with elementary social studies coordinators to ensure K12 coherence and readiness
  • Communicate regularly with campuses regarding curriculum updates EOC support and professional learning
  • Partner with Special Education Bilingual/ESL MTSS Advanced Academics AVID and CCMR teams to support all learners
  • Support district CCMR goals through strong secondary social studies instruction and assessment performance
  • Assist with the development and monitoring of social studies goals tied to the District Improvement Plan
  • Provide reports and analysis to district leadership to inform instructional decision-making
  • Participate in curriculum adoption processes and long-term secondary academic planning
  • Participate in regular meetings with the Director of Academics and content team.
