Who you are:
We are searching for an emerging news photographer who demonstrates a willingness to progress in their craft and an ability to capture the dynamic news environment through their unique perspective.
You are a professional with under 3 years of experience who is passionate about storytelling through photography. You are interested in working with some of the most recognized news photographers and editors in the industry and want to pursue a career in the field.
This opportunity is a paid eight month internship taking place from May 2026 through December 2026 in our Washington DC bureau.
We recognize that the barriers to entry to professional photography are high therefore we have created an opportunity where enthusiastic and committed photographers are supported.
Regardless of current equipment status we will provide you with a full Canon kit for the duration of your internship (e.g. camera accessories lenses) as well as a laptop mifi and iPhone.

Your Next Challenge:
You will join a team of highly collaborative and talented photographers videographers and editors.
During this eight month opportunity as a member of the Getty Images News team you will train on all facets of the editorial imagery business including but not limited to:
- Capturing editorial content (photography and videography) from various assignments.
- Solo assignments as well as group assignments with editing support
- Editorial still & video workflow and technique
Some of the learning objectives of the Internship are as follows:
- Access exposure to and collaboration with some of the worlds leading photojournalists and editors
- Train on our proprietary workflow software as well as industry standard tools for editing and transmitting photography on deadline
- Observe and practice live content capture editing distribution and asset management of stills and footage
We ask that you are open to working as part of a team of photographers and editors work with a sense of urgency and that you take direction and feedback well.
You understand that this job requires flexibility on your schedule and that assignments occurring on nights and weekends are often possible.

What You Can Expect (Physical and Mental Demands & Requirements):
- Frequent communication with others to exchange information (Required)
- Occasionally moving objects up to 40 lbs. and frequently moving objects up to 20 lbs (Required)
- Frequent sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing; Time of each will vary (Required)
- Constant operation of computer and frequent usage of other office machinery (Required)
- Frequent repetition of motions and gestures that may include the wrists hands and/or fingers (Required)
- Constant assessment of accuracy and thoroughness of the work assignment. (Required)
- Regularly operating technology
- Potential for regional domestic US travel
- Performing role functions in a loud and noisy environment
- Performing role functions in outdoor elements that may involve low and elevated temperatures precipitation and wind
- Performing role functions in the presence of bright/flashing lights
$30 - $30 an hour
The starting salary range for this position at the time of posting is USD $30/hr to USD $30/hr. Getty Images has different ranges in different locations within the US and this range represents the starting base pay range. Actual compensation will depend on factors including but not limited to: qualifications geographic location skills experience certification business needs performance and level of responsibility along with the requirements of the position.
