Basic Function
The primary role of the Estimator is to:
- Estimate labor and material costs for Residential Homebuilding per building plans and specifications.
- Generate house quantity takeoffs using estimating software
- Generate bid items and establish house budgets
- Work in tandem with purchasing department to ensure all job cost are accounted for
- Coordinate all related estimating functions to ensure Company objectives are achieved
- Review cost variances in job budgets
- Be familiar with Company cost management system
- Analyze variance purchase orders to identify takeoff discrepancies and implement corrective actions
- Solicit and manage vendor bids for custom options and non-standard scopes
- Support continuous improvement of estimating processes and systems
- Assist with special projects and additional duties as assigned
Scope
The Estimator must demonstrate:
- Knowledge of residential home building techniques and materials
- Proven ability to read and interpret architectural structural and site plans
- Knowledge of scopes of work and building code for residential home building
- Proficiency in estimating and business software (Estimating Software Microsoft Excel)
- Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and with vendors
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines in a high-volume environment
- The ability to manage tight deadlines promptly address changes without disrupting schedules and managing high volumes of work with minimal direct supervision
- Strong emphasis on efficiency accuracy and continuous process improvement
Preferred
- Prior estimating experience with a national or production residential homebuilder
- Familiarity with cost management systems and ERP platforms
- Background in purchasing or construction operations is a plus
Qualifications
- At least 2 years of experience working in the Residential Homebuilder industry
- Bachelors degree in a related field preferred
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and background screening
- Ability to work a five-day work week
- Proper business attire and personal hygiene required to represent company in a professional manner
