Math Specialist
Mount Mansfield Unified Union School District is seeking a Math Specialist to support elementary students and teachers through high-quality mathematics instruction intervention and coaching. This is a dual-role position focused primarily on direct student impact through intensive math intervention while also supporting educators through instructional coaching and math leadership.
The Math Specialist serves as a building mathematics leader and supports the districts implementation of evidence-based math practices and the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). This position works closely with classroom teachers intervention teams and administrators to improve mathematics outcomes for all students.
Primary Responsibilities
Direct Student Intervention (approximately 80%)
- Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 math intervention to individuals and small groups
- Deliver targeted math instruction focused on number sense fact fluency conceptual understanding procedural fluency and problem-solving
- Monitor student progress and adjust instruction based on data
- Collaborate with school teams to support student intervention plans
- Communicate student progress with families and staff
Instructional Coaching & Math Leadership (approximately 20%)
- Support classroom teachers through coaching modeling and co-planning
- Assist teams in analyzing math screening and progress monitoring data
- Support implementation of math curriculum and instructional practices
- Participate in PLCs and district math initiatives
- Support Universal Design for Learning and equitable instructional practices
Qualifications
- Masters Degree in Mathematics Mathematics Education or related field
- Minimum of five years of teaching experience with demonstrated success improving math outcomes
- Experience with MTSS PLCs and data-driven instruction preferred
- Valid Vermont Teaching License with Math Specialist (186) endorsement
- Strong collaboration communication and organizational skills
