POSITION PURPOSE:

Provides support and assistance to preschool teachers and school administrators in the use of curricular materials related to preschool programs; ensures compliance of federal state and local laws and procedures. Promotes standards-based instruction by co-teaching modeling focused observations and professional learning community activities; supports teachers in using assessment data and analysis of student work to plan and deliver differentiated instruction.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Extensive knowledge of federal state and local compliance regulations;
  • Extensive knowledge of best practices in special education and the development of young children;
  • Extensive knowledge of the Every Child Accountability & Tracking System (ECATS);
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office specifically Microsoft Word Excel Power Point; Google Apps;
  • Demonstrated leadership and team building skills;
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information collaborative efforts and feedback;
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction;
  • Ability to organize information pulled from multiple sources;
  • Ability to design and deliver professional development;
  • Ability to evaluate trainings and professional development to ensure topics and information are being implemented;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff students parents external agencies and the community.

EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited college or university in early childhood education special education or related field;
  • Five years of experience teaching young children;
  • Experience in designing and delivering professional development to adult learners;
  • Other combinations of applicable education training and experience which provide the knowledge skills and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educators License in Birth to Kindergarten;
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operators license according to the State of NC requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree in early childhood special education or related field;
  • Experience teaching in a preschool classroom at an elementary school;
  • Experience teaching in culturally and economically diverse environments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides support and assistance to preschool teachers and school administrators in the use of curricular materials related to preschool programs; ensures compliance of federal state and local laws and procedures.
  2. Promotes standards-based instruction by co-teaching modeling focused observations and professional learning community activities; supports teachers in using assessment data and analysis of student work to plan and deliver differentiated instruction.
  3. Provides assistance with research-based strategies that support preschool instruction for special populations including second language learners and students with special needs; identifies and secures appropriate resources for preschool instruction.
  4. Provides support and assistance to preschool children and their caregivers through the screening and eligibility processes.
  5. Designs and delivers training for preschool teachers and Office of Early Learning staff to provide skills needed for training parents and caregivers.
  6. Collaborates with representatives from community agencies as needed to facilitate referrals and provide information on community resources to families and caregivers.
  7. Designs and delivers professional development to support Office of Early Learning staff in the implementation of preschool instruction through a support model that creates opportunities to reflect on practice and promote continuous improvement of instructional practices; evaluates professional development to identify areas of improvement.
  8. Stays abreast of current practices related to preschool education and participates in state and local professional development to improve own knowledge.
  9. Maintains and submits appropriate records and timely documentation of preschool support; organizes and contributes to documentation that supports the Strategic Plan for the Office of Early Learning; collects and analyzes data related to the implementation of Preschool Programs.
  10. Performs other related duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers scanners and copiers. The position at times must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff and staff members of external agencies and the community. Work is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force.
