OVERVIEW
The Department of Music Film and Creative Enterprise at the University of St. Thomas invites applications for a one-year position in instrumental music education. This is a non-tenure track position for the 2026-2027 academic year with a preferred start date of August 1 2026.
We seek an engaged colleague with demonstrated expertise in conducting and music education to serve as Visiting Assistant Professor in instrumental music education. Teaching responsibilities for this position include direction of the universitys Symphonic Band in collaboration with the Director of Bands. Other teaching responsibilities may include undergraduate instrumental conducting music education methods advising of masters projects or other courses according to the candidates expertise. An active agenda of professional engagement in the field is expected. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience and aspirations for an inclusive welcoming and supportive learning environment.

The salary range for this position is $65000 - $70000.
The University of St. Thomas has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information.
QUALIFICATIONS
- DMA (U.S. or Foreign Equivalent) in instrumental conducting or PhD or EdD (U.S. or Foreign Equivalent) in instrumental music education or alternatively ABD candidates nearing completion will also be considered.
- Minimum five years of band directing experience at the high school and/or collegiate level.
- Demonstrated ability to teach courses in the candidates area of specialization; special consideration will be given to candidates who have expertise in teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in music education conducting and others as needed by the department.
