PositionPurpose:TheDirectorofStructural& ThermalEngineeringisresponsibleforallStructuraland ThermalEngineering staff management (people) and BCT company-wideStructural& ThermalEngineering& Analysisprocess and tools.

Title: Director of Structural & Thermal Engineering

Position Type:Full Time

Pay Range: $180000 - $290000

(Salary to be determined by the education experience knowledge skills and abilities of the applicant internal equity and alignment with market data.)

On-site position at our Lafayette CO location (work locations are subject to change based on business need).

JobResponsibilities:

  • Team Leadership Lead a team of talentedandcapableStructuralengineersand Thermal engineers.Promotea cultureof excellence integrityandrespect within theTeamand across thewiderfunctionalengineeringteam. Manageemployeeperformance planning goalsettingandfeedbackconversations.Be the primary advocate forindividuals as well astheStructures& ThermalTeam.
  • Technical Leadership Act as a technical leader within the areas ofStructural& ThermalAnalysis Finite ElementSpace EnvironmentsandLaunch Vehicle loads & environments. Facilitate andparticipateindesign reviewsincluding at thecomponentlevelto sub-system and system level.Swiftly lead the team through resolution of complex technical mattersbalancing business needs with qualityandbe a core participant in Change Review Boards andFailureReviewBoards as necessary.Be the leader who owns technical issues andworks with thetechnicalteamto bringproblems to resolution.
  • Product LeadershipEnsuretop-notchandtimelytechnicalexecution ofallStructuraland Thermalengineering tasks across BCT programsandproduct lines.Work to properly staffallStructural& Thermalengineering needswhile protecting the teamfromrisk ofexcessiveworkload. Participate innew business initiativeactivities by supportingdevelopmentofdetailedestimates(tasks & hours). LeadStructural& ThermalEngineering in productandprogram planningactivitiesandsupportdesign reviews (SRR/PDR/CDR/MRR/TRR).Work in unison withprogramandproduct leaders across BCT by providing technical support forproduct line decisionmaking.
  • Design Process Development MonitorStructural& Thermalengineeringand analysisprocessesfor effectiveness while consideringthe teamscapabilities failuretrendsandbusinessneeds.Modify existingprocessesor developnew processesthatenablequalitytechnicaloutputsandachievablecost/schedule targets thusensuringthecontinuedsuccessof BCTsproducts.
  • Establishandmaintainhighqualityrelationships based on trust and professionalismwithin theStructures& ThermalTeamandcross-functionalpeers.
  • Actas thecustomer POC forStructural& Thermalengineering interactions with customers (may be delegated with supervision); be the escalation path forcustomersonStructural& Thermalissues.
  • Forecast operating costs ofthedepartment and prepare andensurethe team is meetingdepartment overheadbudget.
  • Interpret company policies to workers and enforce safetyregulations.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications/Education:

  • 15or moreyearsof experiencedesigning/developing/analyzingspacecraft structuresor thermal systems withprogressive(year over year)complexity.
  • Seven (7)or more yearsofproventechnicalandfunctionalleadershipwithhistory ofprogressiveleadershipexperience(fromLeadtoManager or Senior Manager of Engineering etc.)
  • Abachelorsdegree inEngineeringor Scienceis(advanced degreepreferred)
  • An advanced knowledge anddetaileddesignexperienceofcomplex space systemsis.
  • Expertisein one or more areas ofStructuralor Thermalengineering:Finite Element Analysis Launch environmentsThermal Desktop TD Direct SolidWorksetc.
  • Anunderstandingofthekey relationshipsbetweenStructuralor Thermalengineering and all other elements ofthesystemsto which theyinterface;a systemengineeringexposureorbackground is a plus.
  • Strongsenseofteambuilding/leadershipbased onrespectintegrityandethics.
  • Excellentwrittenandverbalcommunicationskills.
  • Relatedtechnicalexperiencemaybeconsideredinlieuofeducation.


Working Conditions:

This job operates in a professional office environment but in a manufacturing company. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers phones photocopiers scanners filing cabinets and fax machines. BCT anticipates the application window closing approximately 40 days from the date the notice was posted. However factors such as candidate flow and business necessity may require BCT to shorten or extend the application window.
