As a bilingual Hebrew-English school we proudly serve over 280 students from Pre-K3 through 5th grade in the heart of DC.
The Role
As an Special Education Teacher you will serve as a case manager and teacher within our 50/50 immersion model. You will work jointly with the English and Hebrew language teachers to support students with will be conducting push-in and pull-out lessons as well as co-teaching addition you will write IEPs and lead IEP meetings. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in ELA and math to our students with disabilities ensuring a seamless dual language experience for our diverse student body.
Key Responsibilities
Case Management Excellence: Lead the development implementation and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Coordinate and facilitate multidisciplinary IEP meetings with families clinicians and administrators.
Dual Language Instructional Support: Design specialized lesson plans that adapt Common Core standards for students with diverse needs specifically navigating the cognitive demands of a dual-language environment.
Data-Driven Advocacy: Regularly analyze progress monitoring data to tailor interventions. Use data to advocate for student needs during IEP meetings.
Strategic Collaboration: Partner closely with Hebrew immersion teachers and English-language teachers to bridge content ensuring that accommodations are effectively implemented across the day.
Compliance & Integrity: Maintain meticulous records in accordance with IDEA FERPA and DC local policies ensuring all timelines for evaluations and annual reviews are met.
Instruction and Curriculum
Plan and deliver specially designed instruction (SDI) in ELA and Math aligned with student IEP goals.
Modify and adapt grade-level curricula to ensure rigor is maintained while removing barriers to access.
Utilize a variety of research-based interventions to support foundational skill gaps.
Work with Hebrew co-teachers to develop visual aids scaffolds and modified vocabulary lists to support students during Hebrew-immersion blocks.
Classroom Environment and Student Engagement
Implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and restorative justice practices tailored to students individual behavioral intervention plans (BIPs).
Foster student self-advocacy helping learners understand their own profiles and the superpowers of their neurodiversity.
Family Engagement and Communication
Serve as the primary point of contact for families of students with IEPs providing regular updates on goal progress.
Empower families by demystifying the special education process and providing strategies for home-based support in a bilingual context.
Collaborate with external providers (OTs SLPs Psychologists) to ensure a holistic approach to student development.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Bachelors degree from an accredited institution (Masters degree preferred).
- Expertise: Deep subject-matter knowledge; ideally a major/minor or graduate degree in Education or a core content area. A teaching license is preferred but not required.
- Experience: At least two years of elementary teaching experience with a proven track record of student growth.
- Skills: Exceptional oral and written communication; ability to motivate a diverse group of learners.
- Eligibility: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
