The University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs. This is a part-time (0.50 FTE) non-tenure administrative appointment that plays a key leadership role in advancing the Colleges academic mission through strategic oversight of faculty affairs academic policy and faculty development.



Responsibilities
  • Assists and oversees the faculty recruiting process including offer development determination of rank and appointment paperwork.
  • Leads the promotion and tenure process ensuring adherence to university policies consistency across departments and timely review of all dossiers.
  • Serves as a key member of the Executive Deans leadership council.
  • Develops structured pathways for leadership development academic promotion and scholarship.
  • Supports the annual review process for all College of Medicine faculty ensuring evaluations are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Coordinates with the Executive Dean to organize and support the Deans Faculty Advisory (DFAC) including agenda planning documentation and follow-up actions.
  • Provides guidance and aid to individual Chairs and faculty.
  • Leads and oversees faculty development initiatives including mentorship programs for early and mid-career faculty.
  • Addresses faculty grievances and conflicts of interest.
  • Helps establish and maintain equitable faculty salary guidelines ensuring fairness and transparency across departments.
  • Represents the College of Medicine on the Faculty Affairs Working Group (FAWG) of the AAMC.
  • Provides additional academic duties: .5 FTE of this role will handle other academic duties such as clinical service or research.
    • Clinical service will be performed at one of UTHSCs practice partners; or
    • Research activity will be within and support to one of UTs basic science departments.


Qualifications

EDUCATION:Terminal degree (MD DO PhD or equivalent) and eligibility for faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.

EXPERIENCE: Demonstrated leadership experience in academic administration preferably within a medical school or health science center. Proven experience with faculty affairs processes including promotion and tenure appointments and academic policy development. Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across departments and units.
