The University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs. This is a part-time (0.50 FTE) non-tenure administrative appointment that plays a key leadership role in advancing the Colleges academic mission through strategic oversight of faculty affairs academic policy and faculty development.
Responsibilities
- Assists and oversees the faculty recruiting process including offer development determination of rank and appointment paperwork.
- Leads the promotion and tenure process ensuring adherence to university policies consistency across departments and timely review of all dossiers.
- Serves as a key member of the Executive Deans leadership council.
- Develops structured pathways for leadership development academic promotion and scholarship.
- Supports the annual review process for all College of Medicine faculty ensuring evaluations are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Coordinates with the Executive Dean to organize and support the Deans Faculty Advisory (DFAC) including agenda planning documentation and follow-up actions.
- Provides guidance and aid to individual Chairs and faculty.
- Leads and oversees faculty development initiatives including mentorship programs for early and mid-career faculty.
- Addresses faculty grievances and conflicts of interest.
- Helps establish and maintain equitable faculty salary guidelines ensuring fairness and transparency across departments.
- Represents the College of Medicine on the Faculty Affairs Working Group (FAWG) of the AAMC.
- Provides additional academic duties: .5 FTE of this role will handle other academic duties such as clinical service or research.
- Clinical service will be performed at one of UTHSCs practice partners; or
- Research activity will be within and support to one of UTs basic science departments.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:Terminal degree (MD DO PhD or equivalent) and eligibility for faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
EXPERIENCE: Demonstrated leadership experience in academic administration preferably within a medical school or health science center. Proven experience with faculty affairs processes including promotion and tenure appointments and academic policy development. Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across departments and units.
