Job Summary
JobOverview:
The PackagingSpecialistis responsible formanaging developing andoptimizingreturnable and expendablepackaging solutions for our customers. This role ensures packaging meets quality safety closely with customers suppliers and internal teams to test order receive control and trackpackaging materials as well as design new packaging when specifications are not providedand serve as abackup of shipping functions.
KeyResponsibilities:
NewParts&PackagingProposals
- Receivenewpartnumbersanddailydemandrequirementsfromcustomersanddetermine appropriate packaging solutions.
- Performphysicaltestingofpartswithavailablepackagingon-siteanalyzingweightdimensions stacking feasibilityand protectionneeds.
- Document results with photos weight studies and quantity recommendations; submit proposals tocustomersforapproval.
- Review and validate customer 3D packaging simulations (PDFs) ensuring feasibility safety andquality of parts upon arrival.
- Identifyrisksrelatedtoheavypartsstackingorrestrictedpackagingreferences.
- Support packaging proposalsforcustomers including weeklyinventorycounts andsubmission ofpackagingusagereports.
Ordering&InventoryPlanning
- Placepackagingordersthroughcustomerportalsensuringalignmentwithapprovedpackagingreferences.
- Track lead times (up to two weeks) and forecast requirements based on new packaging approvalsanddemandfluctuations.
- Maintain an updated record of all packaging references (wood boxes blue boxes pallets spacersframes lids etc.).
- Plan orders considering warehousing space departmental needs and inventory levels to preventshortages.
Receiving&Distribution
- Performaccuratecountsofpackagingupon receiptvalidating againstshipping documents andexpectedquantities.
- Accountforbundledshipmentswherepalletsspacersframesandlidsarecombinedintokits.
- Ensureproperstorage:keepsensitivepackaging()undercover.
- Distributepackagingtothecorrectbuilding/departmentpromptlyafterreceipt.
Shipping&InventoryControl
- Track all outgoing packaging shipments ensuring that each transaction is recorded and inventory isupdated.
- Deductquantitiesfromon-handinventorybasedonPDFshipmentreports( Lead).
- Monitorstocklevelsandtriggerreordersbeforeshortagesoccur.
- Learnallshippingfunctionstoactasabackupwhenneeded.
InventoryFollow-Up&Audits
- Conductregularwalkthroughsandauditsontheshopfloortoverifypackagingusageandorganization.
- Ensurepackagingisreturnedtodesignatedcentralpointsafteruse.
- Addressissuessuchas:
- Leadersholdingpackagingwithoutreturningexcess.
- Operatorsusingpackagingincorrectly().
- Misplacedorlostpackaging.
- Updatetheinventorydatabasecontinuouslytoreflectreal-timepackagingavailability.
PackagingDesign&DevelopmentProjects
- Leadpackagingdesignprojectsforcustomerswhennospecificationsareprovided.
- Developnewpackagingconceptscalculatedimensionsoptimizespaceutilizationandensure compliancewithhandling/transportrequirements.
- Requestvendorquotationsforboxesinternaldunnageandrelatedpackagingmaterials.
- Collaboratewithcustomersoncost-effectiveergonomicandsustainablepackagingsolutions.
PreferredQualifications:
2-4 yearsofexperienceinpackagingspecialistsupplychainormanufacturing
(automotivepreferred).
