Job Title: Division Lead Custodian

Summary:
The Division Lead Custodian oversees custodial operations by training staff conducting facility inspections and ensuring performance standards are met across all shifts. Serves as a key technical resource managing special projects evaluating custodial equipment and coordinating with district leadership on safety security and maintenance needs. This role requires a hands-on approach including filling vacancies when necessary and maintaining school grounds to ensure a safe clean environment for students and staff. Ideal candidates possess strong leadership skills expertise in commercial cleaning equipment and the ability to exercise sound independent judgment in emergency situations.
Essential Functions:
- Assists with custodial training and development - knowledgeable of OSHA standards and mandatory custodial training.
- Performs facility inspections to ensure custodial performance standards and standards for cleanliness are being maintained during both day and evening shifts.
- Leads and assists custodial operations to reopen schools after weather events.
- Inspects school grounds and works with Parks & Recreation to address landscape and playground maintenance issues.
- Conducts and/or assists with special projects such as relocations mass distribution of supplies inventories etc.
- Lead orientation of new custodial employees.
- Provide initial and annual training in alignment with district policy and the custodial work expectations.
- Plan for and assign custodial coverage to address absences and vacancies or fill vacancies when coverage is unavailable.
- Recommends changes in safety systems and operations based on current industry knowledge and results of school safety reviews.
- Attends meetings as directed where matters of safety and security are discussed.
- Assist with custodial staff work-related concerns as directed.
- Work overtime as required to meet district standards.
- Report safety/security violations to the Director of Facilities Operations or the Chief Operations Officer.
Skills Knowledge and Abilities:
Must have knowledge of cleaning methods materials and equipment including operation of commercial cleaning equipment such as high-speed buffers carpet extractors auto-scrubbers and snow blowers. Must have a positive attitude and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with school staff administration students and community members. Requires good interpersonal skills demonstrating effective oral and written communications. Ability to use or learn computer functions (email internet phone messaging). Must exercise good judgment and the ability to make independent decisions and seek guidance when appropriate. Must possess a valid drivers license.
Education and/or Experience:
High School diploma or G.E.D. plus 5 years of supervisory post-secondary education in tourism/business management training or custodial experience preferred OSHA Certification and Green Cleaning Certification also desirable.
Physical Conditions and Nature of Work:
Work is typically performed walking or standing throughout an 8-hour day; bending stooping
lifting and using stairs are frequent movements. Must be able to use a 6-foot ladder; lift objects
weighing up to 10 lbs. continuously 10-25 lbs. frequently and up to 75 lbs. occasionally. Employee may be exposed to inclement weather hazardous conditions or adverse driving.
