Job Summary

The Sheridan Interaction Design and Illustration program areas provide professional and academic education for students desiring careers in Interaction Design Illustration and related sub-disciplines. Our students benefit from our highly accomplished and diverse faculty who teach a broad range of courses that represent a wide array of technologies and disciplines.

We invite applications from qualified professionals for part-time teaching opportunities within the Honours Bachelor of Illustration and Honours Bachelor of Interaction Design programs.

We are seeking practicing designers and illustrators who bring contemporary industry experience a strong professional portfolio and the ability to mentor students in rigorous studio-based learning environments. Courses may be assigned at foundational intermediate or senior levels depending on expertise. Programs included in this call:


Interaction Design Program - Website- Courses

Interaction Design courses explore user centered design human computer interaction principles digital interfaces prototyping and the design of responsive interactive systems.

Potential teaching opportunities include:

Modeling and Materials Explores physical and digital prototyping through 3D modeling fabrication and computational media to develop interactive design solutions

Narrative for Interaction Design Focuses on integrating storytelling into interactive experiences using narrative structures to shape user understanding engagement and behavior.

Interaction Design Ideal Applicant Profile:
We are seeking practicing interaction designers with a strong contemporary portfolio and direct industry experience.

Ideal candidates will:

  • Demonstrate expertise in interaction design practices including UX/UI prototyping and the design of digital or physical interactive systems;
  • Be able to mentor students in both conceptual thinking and technical execution including research iteration and critique within a studio environment;
  • Bring experience with industry-standard tools and workflows for prototyping modeling and interaction development (e.g. Figma Arduino Unity fabrication tools or similar);
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how interaction design operates across contexts including digital products spatial experiences and emerging technologies.


Illustration Program - Website - Courses

Illustration courses span material exploration professional practice and advanced portfolio development preparing students for freelance studio and entrepreneurial careers.

Potential teaching opportunities include:

Illustration Disciplines 2: Visual Strategies Develops advanced visual problem-solving through applied projects integrating narrative audience awareness and professional illustration strategies.

Illustration Narrative Explores visual storytelling through the integration of image and text focusing on narrative structure sequence and audience-driven communication.

Illustration Workshop Advanced portfolio development cross-disciplinary approaches emerging markets campaign thinking and professional presentation.


Illustration Ideal Applicant Profile:
We are seeking practicing illustrators and creative entrepreneurs with a strong contemporary body of work and direct industry experience.

Ideal candidates will:

  • Demonstrate expertise in traditional and/or mixed media practices current illustration markets and professional workflows;
  • Be able to mentor students in both technical craft and conceptual development while facilitating rigorous studio critique;
  • For professional practice courses direct experience managing contracts pricing usage rights negotiation and client relationships is essential;
  • Experience exhibiting publishing commissioning art directing or leading collaborative creative projects is considered an asset.


What Youll Be Doing

  • Selecting appropriate readings to support curriculum;
  • Ensuring that program and course curricula are current relevant and reflective of best practices within the relevant professional/program disciplines;
  • Creating an effective environment for learning which accommodates students diverse cultural and educational backgrounds experiences and individual learning styles;
  • Designing appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and assessing student learning;
  • Developing multi-media materials and alternative delivery strategies and incorporating appropriate educational technologies into the learning process.

You are a student-centered individual with a passion for facilitating student success and enhancing the student experience.

The successful candidate will also meet the following requirements:

  • Masters degree and/or equivalent relevant industry experience.
  • Experience in teaching at the post-secondary level preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Committed to excellence in teaching and learning and to working within a team environment.
  • Knowledge of online learning management software: Sheridan professors use Slate (D2L Brightspace) to augment in-class course learning.
  • Depending on program or course needs there may be additional qualifications required.

First Nations peoples have lived on this part of Turtle Island for millennia stewarding the land the water and all that contributes to life in this region. Today the culture and presence of First Nations Inuit and Metis peoples enrich the lands and people of this territory.
