Description
Space Transportation Data Processing System Engineer in Process Improvement and Intelligent Manufacturing Value Chain Assessment and Assets Management Infrastructure and Value Chain Directorate of Space Transportation.
Process Improvement and Intelligent Manufacturing is responsible for identifying and implementing improvement measures and state-of-the art technologies in the manufacturing assembly integration and logistics of European launchers. It plays a vital role in driving innovation increasing the resilience of manufacturing assembly integration and testing increasing the competitiveness of European launchers and implementing artificial intelligence advanced simulation sustainability engineering and digital transformation.
Duties
Your tasks and responsibilities will include:
- managing and overseeing the implementation of space transportation data processing system projects ensuring they are completed on time and within budget;
- coordinating with space transportation project managers and stakeholders to align data processing system strategies with organisational goals;
- collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of IT solutions with space transportation systems;
- managing the design development and maintenance of data processing systems to support space transportation projects;
- implementing and optimising data processing engineering workflows to enhance system performance and reliability;
- conducting data analysis and providing insights to support space transportation decision-making processes;
- ensuring compliance with ESA and industry standards and best practices in information engineering and data processing;
- providing training and support to team members on information systems and data processing tools;
- remaining up to date with the latest advancements in information engineering and space transportation technologies;
- assisting in the evaluation and selection of new technologies and tools to enhance information engineering capabilities;
- contributing to the continuous improvement of processes and systems within the Directorate;
- acting as data processing expert supporting the engineering team in gathering and assessing knowledge and trends in smart manufacturing and data-driven process optimisation;
- supporting STS-IVI engineers in assessing the applicability and potential deployment of these manufacturing technologies within industrial launcher activities.

Education and professional experience
A masters degree in a relevant engineering discipline is required for this post together with 5 years of relevant professional experience.

In principle recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the masters degree the position may be filled at A1 level.
Applicants must be eligible to access information technology and hardware which is subject to European or US export control and sanctions regulations.
During the recruitment process the Agency may request applicants to undergo selection tests. Additionally successful candidates will need to undergo basic screening before appointment which will be conducted by an external background screening service in compliance with the European Space Agencys security procedures.
Note that ESA is in the process of transitioning to a Matrix setup which could lead to organisational changes affecting this position.
