Wyman-Gordon creates rotating closed-die forgings which are critical for aerospace and land-based gas turbines. Wyman-Gordon also manufactures structural forgings for airframe nuclear petrochemical power generation and space applications.

Location Profile

Located in South Gate Dickson Testing Company Inc. is a full-service destructive testing laboratory serving aerospace and metallic producers worldwide. Our laboratories serve our customers with metallurgical mechanical corrosion and chemical testing support of these services our facility provides complete specimen fabrication cut off services and heat treat capability.

Position Summary

The Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Intern will assist the EH&S Department in developing implementing coordinating and maintaining EH&S programs and policies in accordance with applicable federal state and local laws and regulations.

This internship is on-site and can be part-time (20hours/week) or full-time with the schedule determined based on availability and course load.

• Serve on various EH&S related committees (Site safety committee 6S committee Storm Water Pollution Prevention Team).
• Gather and maintain records of all required environmental reporting.
• Coordinate and maintain documentation of safety and environmental training for new hires and employees.
• Assist with plant safety inspections document non-conformances and advise proper corrective action.
• Participate in process reviews (such as process hazard analyses etc.).
• Update the sites chemical inventory and safety data sheet library.
• Work with the EH&S Manager to develop machine specific lock out tag out procedures.
• Administrator to the EH&S Management software Gensuite.
• Assist with management of incoming safety concern reports including assignment to the proper department and tracking reports to closure.
• Assist with monthly sustainability data entry reporting.
• Assist with injury/illness and non-injury incident investigations to determine causal factors.
• Assist in conducting New Hire Safety Orientations.
• Partner with leads and manufacturing personnel to review and update job hazard analysis documents.
• Creates presentations to report on current projects to Leadership team.
• Projects will include state and federal environmental health and safety regulatory programs including the Clean Air Act RCRA Clean Water Act EPCRA DOT OSHA etc.
• Performs other duties as required.

Required Skills

• Effective attention to detail.
• Proficient user of MS Word Excel Access Outlook; other productivity tools.
• Able to read and interpret Cal OSHA OSHA and environmental regulations.
• Possess excellent problem solving organizational and verbal & written communication skills.
• Highly organized self-motivated individual who can work independently as well as work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
• A strong technical aptitude along with the ability to work independently yet interact closely with other departments customers and vendors.

Required Experience

• Prior experience as an EH&S intern desired but not required.

Level of Education

• Minimum second year students working towards bachelors degree in environmental science Occupational Health and Safety Industrial Hygiene Environmental/Civil Chemical/Safety Engineering.
