Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Director of Special Education Fort Dodge Community School District is seeking a dynamic and experienced educator to serve as a Lead Behavior Teacher. This is a unique opportunity for a passionate individual to make a significant impact on student learning by supporting and empowering our teaching staff. The Lead Behavior Teacher will not have a dedicated classroom but will play a crucial role in fostering a culture of continuous improvement through professional learning Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and curriculum development. This position requires strong leadership skills a deep understanding of effective instructional practices and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and administrators.

All positions assigned 30 or more hours weekly (typically 6 hours daily) are eligible for a full benefits package including medical dental and vision insurance and paid leave.

Essential Functions

Professional Learning:

Design develop and facilitate high-quality professional learning opportunities for teachers based on district-wide goals data analysis and identified needs around behavior.
Research and implement innovative instructional strategies and best practices.
Provide individualized and small-group coaching and mentoring to teachers and para educators to enhance their skills as it relates to Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) and Individual Educational Plans (IEP). Support the implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) and Individual Education Plans (IEP).
Stay current on educational research and trends and share relevant information with the staff.
Organize and facilitate professional development days and in-service training.

Curriculum Development:

Collaborate with teachers and administrators in the review development and implementation of Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) aligned with state standards best practice and Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE)
Facilitate the sharing of effective curriculum resources and strategies among teachers.

Professional Learning Communities (PLCs):

Support the development and ongoing functioning of effective PLCs.
Facilitate PLC meetings as needed focusing on collaborative inquiry data analysis and the implementation of effective instructional strategies.
Provide resources and guidance to PLCs to enhance their effectiveness in improving student learning.
Foster a culture of collaboration shared responsibility and continuous improvement within PLCs.
Work with administrators to ensure alignment between PLC goals and school-wide improvement initiatives.

Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS):

Serve as a key member of the districts MTSS leadership team.
Support the implementation and monitoring of the schools tiered system of support for academics and behavior.
Collaborate with teachers and support staff to analyze student data (universal screening progress monitoring diagnostic assessments) to identify students needing additional support behaviorally.
Assist in the development and implementation of targeted interventions and strategies for Tier 2 and Tier 3 students.
Provide guidance and support to teachers in utilizing data-driven decision-making within the MTSS framework.
Facilitate communication and collaboration among stakeholders involved in the MTSS process.

Other Duties as Assigned:

Serve on school-based committees and teams as needed.
Assist with the implementation of district-wide initiatives and programs.
Provide support to new teachers and mentor teachers as needed.
Stay informed about school policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education to support the overall success of Fort Dodge Community School District.

Qualifications

Special Education Masters degree from an accredited college or university.
License issued by Iowa BoEE.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy enabling differentiation
Knowledge of Special Education law Department of Education requirements and best practice.
Knowledge of data information systems data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
Ability to use computer network system technology devices and software applications.
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to communicate effectively with students parents coworkers and the greater community.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.

Travel Requirements

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
