Job Summary
The Senior Technical Engineer will be responsible for managing the operations and maintenance (O&M) activities of grid tied commercial scale solar PV power plants. The role involves ensuring optimal system performance compliance with O&M contracts and supporting the design and assessment of new solar PV and energy storage projects.
The position is based in Dar es Salaam and reports to the Country Manager. The role may evolve to include travel to project sites across the country and neighbouring countries.
Key Responsibilities Operations & Maintenance- Manage and maintain solar PV power stabilization and inverter systems through effective performance monitoring inspections and preventive maintenance.
- Monitor system performance and identify out of spec components connections or performance deviations.
- Ensure full compliance with the scope defined in O&M contracts maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
- Plan schedule and execute routine and corrective maintenance activities.
- Troubleshoot unplanned breakdowns of solar PV equipment battery systems and associated electrical and network systems.
- Manage tools spare parts and stock items efficiently.
- Develop and execute test plans for system commissioning troubleshooting and performance verification.
- Operate and manage SCADA systems for real time data display and monitoring.
- Perform data logging and install energy monitoring equipment to support performance analysis and reporting.
- Communicate findings clearly while working remotely with both local and global technical support teams.
- Conduct detailed site assessments for prospective projects including roof measurements power room inspections and documentation of existing equipment.
- Accurately record measurements sketches and technical data for system sizing and feasibility analysis.
- Support the design of new solar PV and energy storage systems using AutoCAD and other engineering tools.
- Work independently as well as collaboratively within a global technical team.
- Maintain clear timely and professional communication with customers partners internal teams and management.
- Prepare and maintain accurate technical documentation reports and records.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned by the country office.
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Recognised solar PV training certification from a reputable institution (added advantage).
- Minimum of 5 years experience in an engineering role preferably within the renewable energy sector.
- Hands on experience with commercial scale grid tied solar PV systems.
- Exposure to battery energy storage systems (BESS) projects is an advantage.
- Experience with power engineering equipment such as diesel generators power factor correction banks and servo motor voltage stabilisers is highly beneficial.
- Proficiency in computer systems IT networking and AutoCAD.
- Strong working knowledge of SCADA systems and remote monitoring platforms.
- Experience in maintenance planning and scheduling.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical PV and network related faults.
- Experience in data logging and installation of energy monitoring equipment.
- Registration with a professional body (e.g. ERB UIPE) is an added advantage.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a global team environment.
- High attention to detail diligence and adherence to proper design procedures and documentation standards.
