Job Summary
The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the Citys evolving criminal justice system participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees visitors volunteers and people in our custody. Importantly safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.
The Preparedness and Resilience team seeks a Project Coordinator Intern to assist in developing and implementing strategies that enhance operational resilience across facilities. This internship focuses on supporting various initiatives that build a robust communication and operational framework.
-Develop methods for effective communication with staff and individuals in care using
Everbridge and other tools.
-Help create a training curriculum incorporating exercises and evaluations to enhance
team readiness.
-Collaborate on creating contingency plans and emergency evacuation protocols for
new and existing facilities.
-Support the establishment of an Active Shooter plan tailored for soft targets within
facilities.
Preferred Skills
-Enrollment in a relevant undergraduate program (emergency management
public safety or related field).
-Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
-Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
-Interest in contributing to public service and improving community resilience.

Qualifications :
As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program June - August each year.
