Job Summary
AECOM is actively seeking an Architectural Urban Designer (urban designer III) to join our Seattle Team. This role is responsible for process of shaping the physical setting for life in cities and all urban environments (both new communities and regenerated neighborhoods) and the integration of built environment disciplines with community engagement to create or enhance places bringing economic environmental and social advancement. Involves the design of buildings groups of buildings and their settings (from the street block to whole city design); integration of infrastructure and transport with the built environmentand establishing the processes that make successful development possible.
The current and near-term projects that this position would support will be transformational to the communities in which they exist. (you can add local and regional projects here if you think they are of interest and attract the targeted candidate)
Internally this position will provide the opportunity to serve as an integral part of a planning and design practice that includes planners landscape architects architects interior designers engineers and business development professionals. The position will require the ability to support design visions concepts and overall design process for complex multi-layered design problems and solutions.
US West Buildings Places practice includes architects interiors building and system engineering urbanism and planning (inclusive of landscape design) strategy workplace consulting economics technology solutions asset advisory and cost and program management. The team assists our clients from strategy through project realization and construction; creating positive outcomes for those who occupy and use the buildings and environments we help to create. Within our practice you can expect to work on a wide range of small to large projects in varied market sectors such as Science & Technology Advanced Manufacturing Commercial Aerospace Higher Education Industrial and Process Transportation Aviation and Federal market sectors.
The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for initiating and developing engineering drawings through completion for assigned projects in conformance with the requirements applicable codes and design criteria established by the projects discipline engineers.
- Under direct supervision completes design assignments of moderate complexity.
- Under general supervision develops engineering drawings of moderate complexity.
- Applies a solid level of understanding within a specific discipline.
- Familiar with codes permits and software applications related to the discipline.
- Understands the process of preparing designs and drawings using project specifications and discipline-associated written and verbal instructions in accordance with established design practices standards and procedures.
- Basic understanding of Engineers process of performing and verifying design calculations to support the overall project design.
- Fully understands the purpose and use of vendor documents and reviews discipline supplier documents for accuracy.
- Basic knowledge of the use of requisitions and the role of materials management.
- Assists in the collection of data on manpower man-hour and labor costs requirements for design staff to aid in evaluating the budget.
- Basic knowledge of cost estimating methods and performs material take-offs for the discipline.
- Intermediate knowledge of disciplines materials costs and concept of cost analysis and forecasting.
- Basic knowledge of the project change control process and can identify a potential change.
- Basic understanding of the disciplines equipment and material lists.
Qualifications :
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor of Arts or Science Urban Design degree plus 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in Urban Design
5 years or more years of experience as an Urban Designer on a variety of projects
Experience with Revit Adobe Suite Autodesk Revit Enscape Rhino and SketchUp
