Job context

Funding for the post has been approved as part of an Education Enhancement Fund Project (sustainability focussed). The project aims to assess the transferability of CAL-based degrees to graduate careers in sustainability.

Job summary

The Research Assistant will work alongside CAL academics to map the knowledge skills and attributes acquired in CAL-based degrees against graduate level roles in sustainability and develop student-facing resources to promote these links.

Main duties

  • Desk based research on sustainabilityroles.
  • Review of existing literature on careers in sustainability for graduates in Law/Arts baseddisciplines.
  • Mapping of knowledge skills and attributes in CAL degrees against sustainability role jobdescriptions.
  • Compiling a survey of programmeleads.
  • Coordinating and co-hosting student focusgroup.
  • Development of student-facing resource to promote sustainability links.
  • Fosters a fair and equitable workplace for all staff.

Required knowledge skills qualifications & experience

Essential criteria:

  • The successful candidate must be a postgraduate student (Masters or PhD) in a relevant subject area

  • Research Skills: Ability to carry out research independently including conducting literature reviews and synthesise findings clearly and accurately.

  • Analytical skills:Ability to review and interpret programme and module documentation and make connections with content of programme and module paperwork.

  • Attention to Detail:Ability to keepaccuraterecords of documentation reviewed and findings.

  • Communication Skills:Excellent written and verbal communication.

  • Organisational Skills:Ability to manage multiple tasks meet deadlinesmaintainorderly records and work systematically under minimal supervision.

  • Digital Competency:Proficiency in Microsoft Office/365 tools (Word Teams SharePoint) for compiling research managing documents and collaboratively developing project resources.

  • Knowledge Experience:Knowledge of the protected characteristics and duties under the Equality Act 2010. Including fostering good relations and advancing the universities Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED)

Desirable criteria:

  • Experience studying in a CAL based discipline.

  • A demonstrable interest in sustainability and related issues.

  • Evidence of creativity and/or experience in developing promotional materials.
