Job Summary

This is regulatory and enforcement work of a technical nature as described under the Building Act for a Level 2 Plumbing Official involving plan reviewing monitoring and inspection of plumbing installations fire sprinkler installations foundation drainage damp proofing and water and sewer service connections for all types of buildings and structures under the BC Building Code except those described under the Building Act to ensure compliance with applicable Acts codes standards bylaws and regulations. An incumbent of this class provides technical information and assistance to property owners contractors engineers architects and other municipal staff on matters related to the work. Considerable independence of judgment and action is exercised in the interpretation and application of codes and the technical aspects of the work while unusual problems or policy matters are discussed with a supervisor who reviews work in terms of the effectiveness of services rendered and compliance to established practices and standards.

The Training Manual Requirements pre-qualifications for this position are:

  • Completion of diploma in building technology from a recognized post-secondary institution or trade certificate in plumbing issued under the Inter-provincial Red Seal program.
  • One (1) year experience as a Plumbing Official Level I.
  • Courses that meet the Plumbing Official Level II class specification requirements.

The Class Specification requires that you are a registered member of the Building Officials Association of BC - Plumbing Official Level II as per the Building Act and have a valid Class 5 Drivers License and are job requirements.
