TITLE: GEAR UP for GREATNESS! (High School Summer Transition) Coordinator

LOCATION: Urbana High School

SUPERVISOR: Program Director and Building Admin Team

SUPERVISES: Teachers Support Staff and Students

PROGRAM DATES: August 3 - August 7 2026 (5 days)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

1. Coordinate and lead the implementation of a Summer Transition Program for rising eighth graders in accordance with district policy and regulation.
2. Assist the administrative team in the design and implementation of a program for students as they make the significant step towards a successful transition to high school.
3. Facilitate oversee and assist staff in the development and selection of project-based interactive instruction to be covered during the program. Motivate and oversee program staff to sustain engaging opportunities throughout the course of the program.
4. Collaborate with families to create a partnership that supports the content and skills students are learning in the transition program and at home. Provide parents with talking points on a weekly basis directly connected to the programs curriculum.
5. Work with school district stakeholders (i.e.: Building leadership classroom teachers social worker family liaison and counselors) to gain specific strategies and skills that are important components for the middle school experience.
6. Establish an Social and Emotional Learning framework to support learning opportunities and activities within the program. Due to the development level of the students SEL will be a daily expectation (A variety of SEL strategies will be utilized).
7. Maintain and foster a safe environment by building positive relationships between student and staff and student to student as part of their development.
8. Work with community partners on College and Career visits (Urbana Park District Mental Health Services University of Illinois Cultural Houses Urbana School-Based Health Clinic Business Partnerships) to plan and incorporate real life community experiences within the program.
9. Oversee staff schedules review of timesheets submit requests for staff stipends monitor daily meals and arrange substitute coverage for absences. Maintain student enrollment records class schedules and all other necessary documentation.
10. Meet with summer transition staff facilitate orientation training and professional development activities as needed.
11. Maintain and reconcile budget related documentation and report information to the administrative team in a timely manner. Manage program logistics (assign rooms manage materials and resources) meet deadlines follow protocol (allergies medication fieldtrips student safety) complete required reports and provide required documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

• Masters degree in Education or a related field preferred
• Type 75 desired
• Bilingual preferred
• Internal applicants only

EXPERIENCE:

• Experience with coordinating programs
• Experience in the field of Education
• Experience working with community organizations
• Experience with social and emotional learning and strategies

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Positive leadership skills
• Willingness and ability to plan design and implement the program

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Hourly pay rate ($42/hour
• Additional planning and preparation required prior to program start-up.

START DATE: May 3 2026

NOTE: This position is not part of the collective bargaining unit and is not an administrative position. Position contingent on grant funding.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
