Job Summary
The Ultrasonic Immersion Test Systems Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining troubleshooting and supporting multi axis ultrasonic immersion inspection systems used in aerospace component inspection. The role ensures all equipment remains compliant with customer specific aerospace requirements internal procedures and applicable industry standards. This position supports a large immersion UT operation and associated auxiliary equipment in a regulated aerospace manufacturing environment.
Customer Specific Aerospace Responsibilities
Compliance with Customer & Industry Standards
Maintain inspection systems and documentation compliance with applicable customer and industry requirements including but not limited to:
o AS9100 / AS9110 quality system requirements
o NAS 410 (personnel qualification support only; maintenance does not perform inspections)
o ASTM E317 E746 E1065 E1001 E1324 (system performance relevance)
o OEM customer specifications (e.g. Pratt & Whitney PWA GE S specs MTU Rolls Royce RRES)
o Ensure equipment configuration software versions and hardware changes follow change control requirements configuration management procedures and customer notification/approval when required
o Support internal customer and regulatory audits by demonstrating equipment condition and maintenance compliance
o Providing maintenance records calibration support documentation and corrective actions
Participate in root cause investigations for customer escapes or system related nonconformances.
Support customer witnessing of system qualification requalification and acceptance testing.
System Integrity & Validation
Maintain mechanical accuracy ultrasonic repeatability and scan integrity to meet customer acceptance criteria.
Verify system performance after maintenance actions that could affect alignment positional accuracy and signal fidelity
Support engineering during new part introductions procedure transfers and customer driven inspection changes
Core Maintenance Responsibilities
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on Ultrasonic Immersion Test Systems including:
o Motion systems (gantries bridges axes encoders motors drives)
o Ultrasonic instrumentation (pulser/receivers multiplexers digitizers)
o Data acquisition and control hardware
o Water handling systems (tanks pumps filtration)
Troubleshoot mechanical electrical electronic and software-related issues on MATEC and SCANMASTER systems.
Diagnose system faults using schematics manuals diagnostics software and test equipment.
Support system startups shutdowns and recovery following outages or maintenance events.
Working Conditions
Constant exposure to indoor manufacturing environment
Constant exposure to moderate noise
Working conditions may include small spaces dust fumes odors hot / cold temperatures inside / outside noise vibration standing on concrete for long hours and wet or uneven surfaces.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to thirty-five (35) pounds on a repetitive basis.
Must be able to stand walk bend squat climb kneel twist and work at heights on an intermittent basis for up to twelve (12) hours.
Requires hand manipulation including simple grasping pushing and pulling of materials.
Must be able to safety operate an overhead crane boom lift and manlift.
Must be able to reach and work above and below the shoulder level.
Must be able to work with and around forklifts and hazardous machinery.
Must be able to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
Visual acuity skill to detect any flaws in the parts being inspected.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED required
Technical degree military training or equivalent experience preferred
35 years industrial or aerospace equipment maintenance experience
Experience supporting precision automated test systems in a regulated environment strongly preferred
Technical Skills
Strong troubleshooting skills in:
o Electrical systems (AC/DC PID PLC I/O sensors drives)
o Mechanical systems (linear motion bearings pumps valves)
o Ultrasonic testing hardware and cabling
Ability to read and interpret:
o Electrical schematics
o Mechanical drawings
o OEM manuals and procedures
Basic computer skills (Windows OS maintenance tracking systems)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting aerospace NDT equipment
Familiarity with MATEC and/or SCANMASTER Ultrasonic Test platforms
Prior work in AS9100 certified facilities
UT Level I/II (helpful but not required)
