Summary of Job Duties:
The Orthopedic Technician assists physicians in the application and management of casts and braces provides instruction and assistance to resident physicians in cast splint and brace application gives instruction on proper care of casts braces etc to patients. Also provides instructions to rotating medical students and assists with orders and maintains an adequate stock of orthopedic supplies.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED plus one (1) year of direct patient care experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Orthopedic tech experience or Medical Assistant Certification
enrollment in a healthcare-related educational program (Medical Assistant Nursing School or Med School).

Responsibilities:
Provides professional and competent assistance to physicians with the application and management of casts for orthopedic patients
Educates patients regarding casts splints or braces following application
Collects and records patients medical history and acquires patients vital signs. Advises patients regarding treatment medication and specific physician instructions
Collects lab samples and completes documentation for submission to the lab
Monitors inventory of and obtains necessary supplies and/or equipment for patient care in the orthopedic unit
Performs other duties as assigned
