Job Summary

Position Summary:

The Pharmacy Resident is a pharmacist-in-training who provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care through participation in structured clinical operational and educational experiences. Working under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy and the Residency Program Director this role supports safe medication use integrated medication management systems and patient-centered clinical services across care settings. As part of a collaborative pharmacy team the resident functions as a developing clinician while progressively increasing responsibility and independence. This position operates within a supportive learning environment that values mentorship teamwork and professional growth and contributes to clinical excellence and high-quality pharmacy services across the health system.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in clinical pharmacy services including medication therapy management patient counseling and interdisciplinary care activities.
  • Support medication distribution and operational pharmacy functions in accordance with established policies and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with pharmacists physicians nurses and other healthcare professionals to optimize medication use and patient outcomes.
  • Participate in quality improvement medication safety and formulary-related activities as part of the residency program.
  • Complete residency learning experiences projects and evaluations in alignment with program goals and accreditation standards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and demonstrate professional accountability in all clinical and operational activities.


Licenses and Certifications Required:
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the state of ND or has pharmacy intern license in state of ND.
  • If candidate is not licensed they must be licensed within 90 days of their residency as outlined in the residency policy and procedures.

Educational Requirements:
  • Residents must have a Pharm. D. degree from an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy within 90 days of their residency.

Experience Requirements:
  • Good understanding of pharmacology and therapeutics acquired through a combination of didactic and clerkship experience.
  • Experience in general health system pharmacy operations including but not limited to unit dose and I.V. admixtures is preferred.

Special Skills or Training Requirements:
  • The resident should have above average academic performance and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other health care professionals administrators and patients.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft computer programs including Word Excel Outlook and PowerPoint.

Physical Requirements:

This role requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods within pharmacy and patient care environments with intermittent sitting for documentation and project work. The Pharmacy Resident must be able to use computers medication preparation equipment and automated dispensing systems. Adequate vision hearing manual dexterity and communication skills are required to verify medications interact with patients and staff and safely perform pharmacy duties.

Environmental Requirements:

The Pharmacy Resident works in hospital pharmacy clinical and patient care settings with regular exposure to medications sterile compounding environments and clinical workflows. The role may involve time-sensitive responsibilities on-call or variable schedules and interaction with patients with complex medical conditions. Adherence to safety procedures infection prevention practices personal protective equipment requirements confidentiality standards and regulatory policies is required at all times.
