GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist pharmacy supervisor and/or director of pharmacy services performs a variety of technical and clerical duties for the hospital-wide drug distribution system and compounded sterile preparations program. Responsible to maintain confidential reports enter and retrieve data utilizing the computer system prepare compounded sterile preparations including but not limited to medications deemed as hazardous sterile nutritional preparations and antibiotics prefilling patient drawers with a 24-hour supply of medications specific to that individual procuring and filling requests for pharmaceutical supplies and delivering supplies to nursing and other ancillary units. Maintains all required credentials established by the hospital and governing bodies including licensure certification registration and any applicable ongoing professional training within the timeframe established by said agencies.

EDUCATION LICENSURE REGISTRATION EXPERIENCE and KSAs
- High school diploma
- Six to 12 months of pharmacy experience preferred
- Certified Technician License
- Registration with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Technician (including verified certification from NHA PTCB or other authorized accrediting agency)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Maintains and restocks individual automated dispensing cabinets and work areas including all satellites while contributing to the maintenance of a fixed minimal level of pharmacy inventory. Fills and delivers narcotic and controlled medication orders to nursing unit and ancillary department automated dispensing cabinets according to policy and procedure. Routinely completes all required daily checks of the automated dispensing cabinets on the nursing units. This includes but is not limited to outdated medications the return bin multi dose vial expiration and accurate counts and dating of frequently used refrigerated items. Rotates and recycles stock when needed.
- Completes applicable processes associated with the discharge of patients including but not limited to returning all unused medications and ensuring all necessary crediting is performed.
- Maintains and restocks inventory of remote ambulatory sites according to site specific orders and invoices.
- Helps ensure the delivery of patient specific medication(s) including bulk items compounded products and items not routinely stocked to the appropriate areas for administration.
- Prepackages and labels medications into unit doses from bulk supply.
- Bills/credits patient medications by use of the computer charging system.
- Prepares Compounded Sterile Preparations (CSPs) as directed by the pharmacist using sterile technique in accordance with the policies and procedures as well as the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set forth by the pharmacy department. Ensures that all CSPs are properly labeled with all required information. Maintains proper par levels of CSPs that are batched in advance of need. Maintains clean and sterile environment within the intravenous admixture area including clean room. Routinely cleans with appropriate germicidal solutions all hoods counters carts and all other equipment that will be used within the work area according to established protocol outlined in applicable SOP(s).
- Answers the telephone and directs calls to appropriate pharmacy staff.
- Assists in the performance of ongoing quality assurance to assess the operation of the department and actively contributes to the ongoing improvement of department workflows and processes. Assists in the training of other personnel.
- Actively participates in inventory management including but not limited to receiving shipments of medications and products verifying contents of orders against packing slips and purchase orders unpacking merchandise restocking pharmacy and overseeing the process of inventory moves. Notifies the pharmacist of problems with stock levels and inventory supplies.
- Manages all aspects of the hospitals retail pharmacy system including but not limited to cash register management managing retail workflow and applicable needs throughout the shift completing all fill on arrival tasks once respective medications are available and notifying pharmacist of any issues/needs as they arise. Assists individuals at the pharmacy window.
Ensures ongoing predefined routine and scheduled tasks that are preassigned are completed and documented in a timely manner. Maintains assigned monthly outdate area(s) to ensure that all medication storage areas both in pharmacy and within ancillary departments have medications that are not expired. Assists in the continual monitoring of storage and work areas by the tracking and recording of environmental conditions including temperatures pressure differentials and humidity readings.

Participates in and completes required department specific education and training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to department safety and specific job-related hazards.
