POSITION PURPOSE
The Lactation Consultant assists mothers and babies to breastfeed Lactation Consultant is a licensed health professional who has obtained International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners certification (IBCLC).
IBCLC certified individuals with a Registered Nurse License or Non-RN CLC with IBCLC will be considered.
This position is a contingent non-benefited position. Rotating day and event schedule supporting our Postpartum Unit and NICU.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Provide direct support to breastfeeding mothers and infants across Postpartum NICU Pediatrics Labor & Delivery and other units.
Assess lactation needs and document care goals and interventions.
Educate patients and families including those with complex lactation challenges (RN track provides advanced clinical care; see details below).
Collaborate with the healthcare team on individualized feeding plans and discharge readiness.
Respond to outside breastfeeding-related inquiries and provide appropriate guidance.
Participate in breastfeeding policy adherence updates education materials and interdisciplinary collaboration.
MINIUMUM QUALIFICATIONS RN / IBCLC
Education: Requires bachelors degree in nursing
Licensure: Requires current Michigan Nursing License
Certification: International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant IBCLC
Completes all mandatory in-services that apply to the role of the lactation consultant.
Must follow IBCLE guidelines for continuing education to maintain IBCLC certification.
MINIUMUM QUALIFICATIONS CLC / IBCLC
Education: Bachelors degree preferred but not required
Certification: International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant IBCLC
Completes all mandatory in-services that apply to the role of the lactation consultant.
Must follow IBCLE guidelines for continuing education to maintain IBCLC certification.
