ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND ASSOCIATED TASKS
Youth and Pre-K Program Coordination
- Manage youth programs including individual tutoring group activities and small group homework assistance and pre-K programs.
- For after-school programs:
- Assess youth academic needs resources and successful program models.
- Participate in on-going efforts to improve programs and respond to changing needs.
- Develop and implement strategies for increasing parent involvement in youth programs and for creating communication between parents and schools via the after-school youth programs.
- Establish and enforce guidelines for student behavior in all areas of youth programs.
- Organize materials needed for all youth activities including snacks games books software etc.
- Work in collaboration with the team to plan family events parental involvement activities field trips and other programs as needed.
- Data Collection
- Maintain records to reflect daily attendance and program content.
- Produce other program information and grant reports as needed.
- Supervise youth program volunteers including full-time and short-term AmeriCorps members teen workers and community volunteers.
- Partnership Development
- Work with Advantage Center staff to compile information about pre-K and youth-serving agencies in the community.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration among partner agencies including Campfire USA Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.
Summer Youth Program Coordination
- Manage the Youth summer program to include enrichment and recreational activities.
- Plan and staff educational field trips for school age students.
- Supervise Summer Staff including MLC Vistas volunteers teen workers and community volunteers.
Volunteer Management
- Conduct on-site interviews with all potential volunteers and refer to appropriate programs/supervisors
- Conduct group and individual volunteer orientation sessions
- Monitor multiple information sources regarding volunteers and ensure accuracy. Use this information to create and maintain all necessary reports and schedules for volunteers in all programs.
- Provide general support to volunteers.
- Participate in the orientation and training of new youth-serving employees (interns AmeriCorps workers temporary program staff etc.) at the beginning of their tenure.
- Communicate regularly with Volunteer Coordination staff to ensure that procedures are followed and concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
- Assist with volunteer recruitment as needed.
Resource Development
- Identify potential partners to involve in youth programming.
- Identify potential sources program resources (financial in-kind volunteers etc.).
Advantage Center Program Support
- Provide residents with referrals to other staff and programs
- Work with team to coordinate and promote special events
- Troubleshoot on-site programs
- Participate in identified meetings
- Support Advantage Center team effort to develop new programs and to create partnerships with members of the larger community
- Support Advantage Center staff efforts to collect program information.
- Collect program information and articles for monthly community newsletter and calendar.
- Work on other duties and projects as directed by the Program Manager.
Team Participation
- Conduct and participate in youth program staff meetings.
- Work collaboratively with the site Advantage Services team.
- Participate collaboratively in Advantage Services staff meetings and training.
- Promote problem solving and creative approaches to program challenges.
- Participate in site and corporate projects and complete other assignments as requested.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Participate collaboratively with other members of the housing site team.
- Maintain productive relationships with residents and resident leadership groups.
- Promote positive resident and community involvement in Advantage Center activities.
- Maintain productive relationships with owner/affiliate boards and community partners.
- Participate in ongoing interactions with Resource Development team on volunteer recruitment and placement and fundraising efforts.
Professional Development
- Develop professional growth plan for continued training.
- Contribute to professional growth efforts of Advantage Services team.
Performs other duties as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelors degree.
- Three years experience in youth program development and management.
- Supervision experience.
- Demonstrated experience working with populations of diverse age income race national origin and disabilities.
- Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to network and develop community partnerships.
- Good conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work effectively with people with limited English skills.
- Ability to work well in a multiagency and collaborative team environment.
- Ability to utilize MC Office Software programs.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
- Bi-lingual in English and Somali or English and Oromo.
- Experience in early literacy and youth literacy programs.
- Experience conducting program evaluations.
- Experience recruiting and working with volunteers.
- Knowledge of low income housing programs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to open and close file drawers.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to file documents.
- Ability to type data into a computer.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must have access to reliable transportation.
- Must be willing and able to travel between assigned sites.
Pay Rate : $25/hr
