Job Title:Elementary Principal

Summary:
The Elementary Principal is responsible for being the instructional leader of the school and managing site operations. Other responsibilities include coordinating site activities; representing the school within the community; addressing situations and resolving problems and/or conflicts that could negatively impact the school.The principal provides leadership for the professional staff of the school in the development implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive educational program and administers the program in accordance with school board policies and administrative regulations.
Essential Functions:
- Chair meetings (e.g. curriculum safety site advisory special division committees etc.) to coordinate activities and ensure that outcomes achieve school division and/or state objectives
- Conduct ongoing classroom observations to provide feedback to teachers to improve instructional delivery
- Participate in selected Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings to provide guidance to teachers as they analyze data and develop plans for future instruction
- Maintain a schedule of continuing meetings with administrative staff coaches and department/grade level chairs to problem-solve any instructional or behavior concerns and create plans to improve
- Collaborate with other principals and/or coordinators senior staff in the division to develop division-wide processes for curriculum instructional practices etc.
- Compose a wide variety of materials (e.g. quantity reports student activities correspondence etc.) to document activities provide written reference and/or convey information
- Delegate responsibility for a variety of administrative functions to Assistant Principal(s) and other personnel to manage the workload more effectively and efficiently
- Evaluate assigned personnel to ensure that standards are achieved and performance is maximized
- Facilitate communication between personnel students and/or parents to evaluate situations solve problems and/or resolve conflicts
- Implement policies procedures and/or processes to provide direction and/or to comply with mandated requirements
- Manage school administrative functions (e.g. facility maintenance budget staffing etc.) to maintain safe and efficient school operations with Division guidelines
- Present information (e.g. budget overviews accounting processes distribution formulas etc.) to communicate information gain feedback and ensure adherence to established internal controls
- Represent the school within community forums to maintain ongoing community support for educational goals and/or assist with issues related to the school environment
- Supervise instructional personnel to monitor performance provide for professional growth and achieve overall objectives of the schools curriculum
- Complete other duties as assigned
Skills Knowledge and Abilities:
Bilingual in English and another World Language preferred. Performing multiple technical tasks with a need to occasionally update skills to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills include adhering to safety practices planning and managing projects preparing and maintaining accurate records using pertinent software applications; knowledge to perform algebra and/or geometry review and interpret highly technical information write technical materials and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. The principal also must have knowledge of age appropriate activities business telephone etiquette concepts of grammar and punctuation; safety practices and procedures; ability to schedule a number of activities meetings and/or events gather collate and/or classify data use job-related equipment; flexibility to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances work with data utilizing defined but different processes operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods; work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; utilize a variety of data and job-related equipment; independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans; independent interpretation of guidelines; strong communication with diverse groups maintaining confidentiality meeting deadlines and schedules setting priorities; work as part of a team; adapting to changing work priorities; working with frequent interruptions; monitor and appropriately allocate funds for the school
Education and/or Experience:
Masters Degree in school administration or a related field with at least three years of teaching experience is required. You must hold or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License with an endorsement in Administration & Supervision. Previous administrative experience is preferred.
Physical Conditions and Nature of Work:
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: some lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling; some stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting 45% walking and 35% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and some hazardous conditions.
Evaluation:
The principal is evaluated by the Superintendent.
