Job Purpose
To assist people in resolving major difficulties in their lives enhancing independence and coping skills. The postholder will work within current legislation statutory guidance and Council policies to assess commission and review services for vulnerable individuals and families.
The role contributes to protecting people at risk developing effective multiagency responses and ensuring highquality personcentred service delivery across the city.
Key Duties / Accountabilities
1. Professional Practice
- Maintain an uptodate knowledge of legal policy and procedural frameworks and demonstrate professional competence in line with the Code of Practice for Social Workers.
- Work independently using accountable professional judgment including attending court child protection conferences and multiagency meetings without a manager present.
- Assess needs risks and options including child protection and safeguarding of vulnerable adults.
- Plan implement and review interventions for individuals and families including those requiring legal or procedural action.
- Participate in duty rotas as required.
2. Direct Work With Service Users
- Work with individuals families carers and communities to support informed decisionmaking and meaningful involvement in service planning.
- Enhance clients independence and support carers in identifying and meeting their own support needs.
- Prepare for and participate in statutory and nonstatutory decisionmaking forums.
- Undertake complex and highrisk case management including highvalue or complex care packages.
3. Casework Management
- Prioritise workload effectively and maintain appropriate case records in line with Council procedures.
- Record unmet or inappropriately met needs.
- Use corporate systems to support case management and reporting.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions using supervision to enhance practice.
4. Team & Service Contribution
- Provide casework supervision to staff below Grade 8 and offer specialist advice to colleagues.
- Support and supervise students; contribute to highquality placements and workforce development.
- Assist in practice development service improvement projects and training needs analysis.
- Organise and plan duty rotas when required.
- Deputise for the Team Manager for specified duties.
- Contribute to annual service planning and commissioning by identifying emerging needs or trends.
5. Corporate Responsibilities
- Actively support principles of equality diversity and inclusion in line with Council policy.
- Take reasonable care for health and safety and comply with relevant legislation.
- Adhere to the Councils Corporate Safeguarding Policy; complete all required safeguarding training.
- Support Council initiatives to reduce carbon emissions and deliver climateresilient services.
- Work across various locations as required by the needs of the service.
- Undertake other reasonable duties commensurate with the grade.
Essential Experience Required
- Significant postqualification experience in statutory social work.
- Experience managing complex and highrisk cases.
- Experience working collaboratively with multiagency partners.
- Providing casework supervision or mentoring to less experienced staff.
- Knowledge and application of safeguarding legislation for children and adults.
Essential Qualifications Required
- Recognised Social Work qualification (e.g. BA Social Work MA Social Work DipSW or equivalent).
- Registration with the relevant Social Work professional body (e.g. Social Work England).
Additional Information
- Contract type: Fixed-term ( 3 months) with a local authority.
- Hours: 37 hours per week (please confirm).
- Biweekly payment schedule.
