Electrical Engineer – Quality Assurance (TE-MPE-PEGRAE)

Job Summary
The safe operation of superconducting magnet circuits for the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) relies on rigorous electrical qualification both at room temperature and at cryogenic conditions (1.9 K).
As part of the team you will contribute to a variety of electrical test campaigns. This role offers an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or early-career engineers to gain hands-on experience in a highly collaborative international research environment.
You will be supported by experienced colleagues and encouraged to develop both your technical and analytical skills.
Your responsibilities
- Participate in the preparation and execution of electrical tests on HL-LHC magnets interconnections components and circuits in test facilities.
- Contribute to the improvement and documentation of test procedures.
- Support the investigation of non-conformities through fault diagnostics and data analysis.
- Assist in collecting organising and analysing electrical qualification data from internal teams and external collaborators.
- Process analyse and visualise measurement data from superconducting circuits.
Your profile
Familiarity with one or more of the following areas:
- Design or use of electrical test setups or laboratory equipment.
- Basic commissioning or maintenance of electrical systems.
- Electrical measurements and instrumentation.
- Data analysis including introductory statistical methods.
- High-voltage testing or electrical integrity checks.
- Programming (e.g. Python LabVIEW).
- Data management (e.g. SQL or databases).
- Technical documentation or report writing.
- Exposure to superconducting systems or cryogenic environments is nice to have.
- Experience developing measurement methods or test equipment is nice to have.
Skills
- Interest in electrical testing and measurement techniques.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Basic knowledge of data acquisition and signal analysis.
- Willingness to learn new tools and technologies.
- Spoken and written English or French with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language.
Eligibility criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- By the application deadline you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Electrical Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelors or Masters degree.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
- Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
- Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
Additional Information :
Job closing date: 30.04.2026 at 23:59 CEST.
Contract duration: 24 months with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
Working hours: 40 hours per week
Job flexibility: Fully Onsite
Target start date: 01-June-2026
This position involves:
- Interventions in underground installations.
- A valid driving licence.
- Work during nights Sundays and official holidays when required by the needs of the Organisation.
- Exposure to electromagnetic fields under certain exposure conditions.
Given the occupational health risks associated with this position the selected candidate must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed.
