The City of Victoria is hiring a Service Truck Driver to support our Utilities operations within Public this hands-on role youll operate a craneequipped service truck to transport load and unload construction materials and equipment to job sites across the city. Youll perform pre- and post-trip inspections respond to delivery requests from various crews requisition materials and assist with site setup traffic control and underground utilities construction tasks all while working safely in active labour-intensive construction environments and varied weather conditions.


If you hold a valid Class 5 BC Drivers Licence with overweight trailer endorsement Level 1 Certification in either Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection have experience operating trucks equipped with hydraulic cranes and bring related underground utilities construction or materials-handling experience we encourage you to apply.

POSITION FUNCTION

Operate a crane equipped service truck to transport materials and equipment to job sites. Participate in the installation rehabilitation repair inspection and testing of Water Wastewater and Storm systems.

KEY DUTIES

Operate a crane equipped truck to pick up and deliver various construction materials and equipment such as compressors cold mixed asphalt gravel topsoil and concrete; load and unload materials and equipment by hand or by using a hydraulic telescoping crane box lift hoist forklift or front end loader. Perform pre- and post-trip inspections by checking items such as fluid levels belts hoses and lights; report repairs needed and damage to supervisor and mechanic shop; check first aid and safety equipment.

Respond to requests for materials from various crews and other sections; determine order of delivery; requisition materials and supplies from city stores or outside suppliers; move equipment and materials to new location and clean up job sites; operate a hydraulic telescoping crane to place or remove fittings such as steel plates hydrants catch basins cast iron castings and manhole sections from road excavations; remove and dispose of construction rubble.

Excavate and backfill material prior to installation or for the repair of water wastewater or storm systems; install pipe and related appurtenances; control flow of water/wastewater; monitor gauges meters observe variations in operating conditions; operate valves; maintain logs record meter and gauge readings; perform routine maintenance functions. Perform any combination of tasks pertinent to installation repair upgrade and control of the operation of a water distribution or wastewater collection system.

Assist crews with construction tasks and traffic control as required; instruct other staff in the operation of the crane; code material slips and work orders.

Perform related duties where qualified.

Work is assigned and reviewed by supervisor.

Issues such as material and equipment purchases are referred to supervisor.

Problems such as equipment repairs and procedural problems are referred to supervisor or mechanical shop

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Organize and prioritize work.

Operate a truck equipped with a hydraulic crane.

Understand and apply the techniques of installing and repairing water distribution sanitary sewer and storm drain systems and associated pipe fitting and the service and repair of water meters various water valves and fire hydrants.

Use hand tools instruments and power equipment.

Operate equipment and related attachments.

Read and interpret engineering plans utility information sheets and grade sheets.

Maintain accurate records.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.

Work and operate equipment safely.

QUALIFICATIONS

Formal Education Training and Occupational Certification:

High School Graduation

Level 1 certificate in either Water Distribution OR Wastewater Collection

Current and valid Class 5 B.C. Drivers Licence with overweight trailer endorsement.

Experience:

1 year of related experience with water distribution or wastewater systems

or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

OTHER:

May be requested to substitute in a more senior position.
