Principal Associate – Corporate Occupier

Job Summary
About the role:
Gowling WLG is home to one of the worlds strongest multi-disciplinary real estate legal teams. This role will be based within the Specialist Real Estate Services team dealing with general commercial property work including acquisitions disposals due diligence certificates of title and landlord and tenant transactions working alongside some of Gowlings most high profile clients delivering commercial fast paced and creative advice to those clients in our role as trusted advisor. The role will primarily focus on our corporate occupier team incorporating land acquisition and disposal (freehold and leasehold) together with landlord & tenant transactions for a wide range of clients including retailers manufacturers leisure operators infrastructure companies and general corporate occupiers who require office space; in essence all types of occupier for whom property is not their core business. There is however scope to undertake work in other parts of the wider team (e.g. on energy and corporate support transactions).
Main duties and responsibilities:
Working as part of a busy team supporting and working closely with a partner and independently providing advice to occupiers on the full range of real estate issues both in respect of landlord and tenant related work the acquisition and disposal of freehold and leasehold land and other general commercial property. Transactions can often require creative thinking necessitating a secure understanding of land law and a willingness to turn your hand to transactions you may not have undertaken previously. The candidate should be capable of leading transactions and advising a client on commercial risk.
The role will also involve supervision of juniors and assisting the partner with team management.
The team is dynamic growing and with a commitment to providing excellent timely and pragmatic advice to clients and to developing the contacts needed to build and secure their business. The successful candidate will be exposed to a broad range of real estate transactions and will be involved in a diverse and interesting blend of work.
Key skills and experience:
We are looking for ateam member with experience of working within a recognised real estate team who is comfortable in leading transactions and confident in making commercial decisions required to advise sophisticated clients on the acquisition disposal and letting of substantial real estate assets.
- 6 years PQE and above;
- Maintaining and developing relationships with and obtaining instructions from sophisticated and demanding clients;
- Demonstrating a keen interest to learn about our clients businesses and to assist in growing our own business;
- Experience of leading transactions;
- You will have experience in reporting on and supervising juniors in reporting on complex registered and unregistered property titles;
- Experience of acquisition of land for development purposes;
- Working in teams supporting the partner and delegating to and supervising more junior associates;
- Dealing with compliance issues ensuring timely billing and assisting in the collection of bills as necessary.
