Qualifications

  • Education:
    • At least a Masters degree
    • Additional coursework in educational leadership is highly valued
  • Licensure:
    • Massachusetts licensure as a School Counselor required
    • Massachusetts Administrative licensure as Supervisor/Director or Principal/Vice-Principal required
    • Adjustment Counselor licensure is highly valued
  • At least five years of successful counseling experience at the high school level
  • Strong communication team-building and organizational skills

Essential Duties

The Natick High School Counseling Administrator leads a department of 8 school counselors two administrative assistants and one Career Counselor. This role is also a member of the schools administrative team with duties as follows:

1. Leadership

  • Sets and implements a vision for school counseling and goals that align with school and districts mission and priorities.
  • Collaborates with school and district leadership aligning with the broader vision for student academic social-emotional and behavioral support
  • Promotes inclusive trauma-informed and equity-centered practices.
  • Leads the 8th to 9th grade transition process and the 12th to post-secondary process through partnership with both middle schools.
  • Uses data to identify students needs monitor program efficacy and motivate improvement.

2. Coaching Supervision and Evaluation

  • Supports supervises hires and and evaluates school counselors the School Counseling Departments administrative assistants and the Career Counselor including providing training coaching and performance feedback
  • Creates leads and/or facilitates professional development including regular departmental PLCs and professional development half-days
  • Leads regular department meetings

3. College and Career Readiness

  • Creates a vision for embedding early college programming and Innovation Pathways into Natick High School
  • In partnership with the Career Counselor and Transition Coordinator using a differentiated approach that engages all students in post-secondary planning including those with disabilities and multilingual learners through a differentiated approach.

4. Student Support

  • Maintains 15% of a School Counselor caseload
  • Collaborates with the Administrative Team Special Education Department and Clinical Team to create an effective Child Study Team process
  • Creates and maintains systems for intervention when students face attendance challenges personal crises mental health challenges or other barriers to accessing school
  • Assists other school administrators with crisis response
  • Guides students through the completion of local and state graduation requirements
  • Creates a framework for student course selection goal setting skill development and post-secondary readiness through oversight of the developmental guidance curriculum and by providing resources for college planning and career development

5. Management

  • Creates and supports systems and structures for an efficient effective schoolwide scheduling process and college application process
  • Manages departmental responsibilities including
    • In conjunction with other administrators coordination of standardized testing operations including MCAS PSAT and AP testing
    • Runs the NPS scholarship and senior awards program
  • Leads the 504 process
  • Creates and maintains efficient systems for tracking and managing students progress-to-graduation including community service graduation requirements required credits and any state-mandated requirements (Competency Determination (CD) capstones/portfolio projects MyCAP FAFSA/MAFSA completion etc.)
  • Manages the School Counseling Departments budget
  • Manages the compliance process for former ELLs in coordination with district leadership
  • Engages in other administrative functions of the School Counseling Department

6. Collaboration and Communication

  • Creates a strong system for counselor-caregiver engagement
  • Maintains regular communication with staff students and families
  • Develops and coordinates night events including parent informational sessions Step Up night and college/career nights.
  • Builds relationships with employers colleges and external organizations for the benefit of the students and the school.

  • Proven leadership ability including the ability to inspire others foster professional growth coach staff lead change and build collaborative cultures.
  • A track record of building and maintaining positive collaborative relationships with school leaders educators support staff students families and the community.
  • Excellent counseling skills that promote the growth of all students including multilingual learners and those with disabilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to multitask and meet time-sensitive deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • An aptitude for managing details and using data to inform decision-making
  • Expertise in MTSS RTI SEL mental health adolescent development and DEI principles.
  • Skilled in data analysis decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Ability to make independent sound decisions in alignment with school goals district policies and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of and adherence to policies and legal requirements including the IDEA ADA etc.
  • Understanding of College and Career pathways including the MyCAP.
  • Strong skills in various technology systems such as PowerSchool Google Workspace Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and collaboration in responding effectively to changing needs and priorities.
  • Bilingual skills particularly in Spanish and Portuguese are highly desirable.
