Overview
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team delivering innovative and sustainable solutions for rail depots station buildings UK Line Side and associated infrastructure. The role involves design leadership and coordination across UK rail projects with additional exposure to Canadian and Middle Eastern markets.
Your role
- Develop and check LV distribution designs load calculations short-circuit and voltage-drop studies and protective device coordination in accordance with BS 7671 and other relevant standards.
- Produce compliant lighting designs (platforms concourses yards tunnels FOB Indoor and Outdoor area of the building) incl. illuminance/uniformity glare and emergency lighting using Dialux EVO; integrate energy-efficient strategies aligned with project sustainability goals.
- Perform earthing and bonding assessments for stations/lineside assets; prepare calculations drawings and details.
- Complete lightning protection risk assessments and layouts using Furse Strike (or equivalent) coordinating with structural and architectural constraints.
- Size cables and containment (tray/trunking/ladder) considering installation methods grouping thermal effects and route feasibility.
- Specify and integrate transformers diesel generators (DG) UPS Active Harmonic Filters (AHF) Power Factor (PF) correction and Solar PV systems; develop SLDs schematics and I/O schedules.
- Build and update ETAP models for load-flow short-circuit protection coordination and harmonics; translate study outcomes into practical settings and protection philosophies.
- Prepare design documents (calculation notes BoQs specifications method statements design reports) and ensure quality/technical assurance.
About you
- Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 810 years of experience in Electrical design preferably within rail or large infrastructure projects.
- Proven knowledge of UK standards (BS Network Rail & LU standards) and familiarity with international codes (IEC IEEE and Middle East standards).
- Strong working knowledge of BS 7671 and UK rail design practices for LV distribution earthing/bonding junction/station lighting and lineside E&P.
- Prepare design documents (calculation notes BoQs specifications method statements design reports) and ensure quality/technical assurance.
- Proficiency in Electrical design software (Amtech/Trimble ETAP Dialux Evo EOM & Furse Strike) and BIM tools (Revit MEP or equivalent).
- Strong communication and report-writing skills.
Desirable Requirements:
- Experience with UK rail projects and GRIP/PACE stages.
- Exposure to Canadian and Middle Eastern rail/building projects.
- Working towards or holding professional accreditation (CIBSE/ CEng).
- Familiarity with digital platforms and willingness to learn new tools.
