Job Summary:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse focusing on patients with Alzheimers and dementia who exhibit unpredictable aggressive behaviors. The CNA assists with activities of daily living collects patient data performs designated procedures and maintains a clean and safe environment.

The CNA assists with activities of daily living collects patient data performs designated procedures and maintains a clean and safe environment.
Location:Newark New York United States
Responsibilities:
- Assist patients with routine activities of daily living including ambulation positioning skin care linen changes feeding hygiene toileting and incontinent care.
- Collect and process urine stool and sputum specimens.
- Obtain and record vital signs weights pulse oximetry pain assessments and I&O.
- Communicate patient status and report changes in condition to licensed professionals.
- Perform incentive spirometry and transport patients.
- Assist rehab therapists and prepare patients for diagnostic tests.
- Set up oxygen therapy and perform pulse oximetry.
- Prepare rooms for admission and discharge and provide post-mortem care.
- Assist nurses in emergency situations and maintain/clean equipment.
- Perform oral and nasopharyngeal suctioning and blood sugar finger sticks.
- Remove IV catheters per licensed nurse instruction and perform EKGs.
- Answer unit phones direct calls and perform data entry into electronic medical records.
- Document patient care and related duties appropriately.
- Coordinate equipment/supply needs and notify the appropriate department of equipment malfunctions.

Required Skills & Certifications:
- CNA license
- AHA BLS Provider CPR certification
- LTC experience
- Ability to assist with ambulation feeding turning and repositioning patients
- Skills in bed shampooing linen changes complete bed baths and decubitus care prevention
- Competence in foot care incontinence/elimination care mouth care and perineal care
- Ability to shave patients and provide shower assistance and skin care
- Knowledge of antiembolic stockings bedpan/urinal usage and bedside commode assistance
- Experience with heel and elbow protection hospital beds Hoyer lifts and oxygen tanks
- Proficiency in using pulse oximeters transfer belts sliding boards and wheelchairs
- Skills in cleaning equipment donning/removing PPE and following isolation precautions
- Ability to measure and record weight obtain blood pressure (including orthostatic) and temperature (oral rectal axillary tympanic)
- Competence in routine catheter care (indwelling and external)
- Knowledge of turning and positioning patients fluid restrictions and NPO status
- Ability to perform passive range of motion and recognize cardiac arrest
- Skills in safe patient transfers and stocking supplies
- Competence in bathing/hygiene diet intake/calorie counting and drain output measurement
- Ability to report changes in patient condition turn/reposition patients and measure/record urine output
- Minimum 1 year of experience
- CNA license
- AHA BLS Provider CPR certification
- LTC experience

Special Considerations:
- Care for residents on a neurobehavioral unit with diagnoses of Alzheimers and dementia admitted due to unpredictable aggressive behaviors.
- Must be comfortable working with patients exhibiting unpredictable aggressive behaviors.
- Float may be required per facility need.
- Weekend coverage every other weekend.

Scheduling:
- Days: 1:5 ratio
- Nights: 1:10 ratio
- Weekends: 1:7 ratio
- Orientation is held during the day during the first week.
- Days: 1:5 ratio
- Nights: 1:10 ratio
