Overview

The NPI Electrical Technician supports the development and launch of new electrical products by assembling prototypes conducting tests troubleshooting issues and collaborating with cross-functional teams. This role ensures a smooth transition from design to production while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency. During periods of downtime the technician will support the electrical testing team with diagnostic tasks and documentation.

Work Environment

This role is based in Edmonton Alberta within an industrial manufacturing facility. The technician will work primarily in a lab or production environment handling hands-on tasks with electrical components and systems. Occasional travel or overtime may be required during product launch phases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble and test electrical prototypes to validate design and manufacturability
  • Perform electrical testing using tools such as multimeters and function generators
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues in wiring and control systems
  • Collaborate with engineers to refine designs and improve production readiness
  • Document test results build procedures and technical findings
  • Support the development of test fixtures and procedures for production
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and quality protocols during all phases of NPI
  • Assist the testing team during downtime to contribute to ongoing validation and quality control efforts
  • Install and terminate conduit cable equipment panels sensors and various control components and devices
  • Construct and fabricate control panels and rough and finish wiring and control systems
  • Install interlocking wiring and perform wiring check out
  • Install system components and wiring in compliance with the NEC NESC NFPA and the CEC
  • Install troubleshoot repair and maintain electrical control circuits for motors and control devices for various electrical devices
  • Provide material take-offs for electrical facilities equipment requirements
  • Propose changes or modifications to plans to enhance operation and efficiency of systems plans and specifications for facilities
  • Ensure accuracy and completion of assigned tasks and projects
  • Test installed/repaired/modified equipment for proper performance
  • Performs all duties in accordance with Silent-Aire Limited Partnership safety program standards and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act Regulations and Code
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Registered as an apprentice electrician in Alberta and enrolled in a recognized trade school
  • Ability to work under the supervision of journeyman electricians as part of a team and independently in a busy environment
  • Experience with routine electrical maintenance operations an asset
  • Highly flexible with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Able to work well under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Able to deal with people sensitively tactfully diplomatically and professionally at all times

Qualifications

  • Valid Journeyman Electrician Ticket
  • 2 years of experience as a journeyman in electrical assembly testing or NPI support
  • Crane Ticket and First Aid certification are suggested but not required training will be provided as needed
  • Experience in a manufacturing or product development environment preferred
