Job Summary
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Daily Irrigation
- Assist the Irrigation Supervisor in planning and developing daily and weekly irrigation schedules to ensure all plants receive appropriate moisture
- Perform daily irrigation operations including running irrigation lines setting guns and operating linear and pivot irrigation systems
- Participate in evening and weekend irrigation rotation schedules as required
- Track and record rainfall and irrigation events in coordination with the Irrigation Supervisor
- Collaborate with the irrigation maintenance team to safely and efficiently identify and resolve system issues
- Assist with irrigation equipment maintenance organization and inventory management
Communication
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with the Irrigation Supervisor regarding daily and weekly priorities schedules and operational needs
- Coordinate with the Field Operations Manager on daily irrigation schedules and personnel requirements
- Communicate with the Production Coordinator to ensure crops are irrigated following planting completion
- Collaborate with Plant Health staff to coordinate irrigation timing related to herbicide applications
- Communicate irrigation supply needs including pipe guns and sprinklers to the Operations Manager and Irrigation Specialist
Equipment Operator
- Operate specialized irrigation and field equipment safely and effectively
- Operate additional equipment throughout the year including but not limited to:
- Batwing mowing
- Cultivating
- Rototilling
- Field preparation
- Perform other equipment operation duties as assigned to support overall field operations
Digging Crew Responsibilities
- Participate in fall and spring digging and storage operations
- Support trailer and transport activities including:
- Driving trucks as assigned
- Loading trailers
- Applying sand covering
- Picking up stray plant material
- Placing plant products into cribs leveling product and ensuring accurate labeling
Team Responsibilities
- Communicate problems concerns or safety issues to the appropriate manager promptly
- Maintain a positive professional attitude and assist with training and supervising team members as needed
- Follow and uphold all company policies and procedures
- Apply prior experience effectively within Walters Gardens operations
- Develop and maintain proficiency in plant knowledge processes and equipment
- Complete additional duties as assigned by management
Requirements
Knowledge and Skills
- Three to five years of related work experience or relevant college education
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office preferred
- Strong organizational and basic math skills
- Ability to lift heavy objects and work outdoors in varying conditions
- Availability to work extended hours evenings and weekends as required by seasonal demands
- Ability to obtain a Walters Gardens Hilo Operator License
- Ability to safely operate irrigation and field equipment
