Your role and responsibilities

As a Structures Design Technician you will play a key role in shaping and safeguarding Suffolks infrastructure by bringing engineering designs to life. Youll support the delivery of bridges and structural improvement projects from initial investigation through to detailed design working closely with project managers engineers councillors external specialists and local communities. Your work will range from producing technical drawings and bills of quantities to preparing risk assessments and essential documentation that enables our Infrastructure Operations teams to get to work on site. Youll help ensure schemes progress smoothly by coordinating with statutory bodies monitoring site activities keeping data systems accurate and supporting compliance with key legislation. This is a role where your technical precision creativity and problemsolving skills directly contribute to safe efficient and futureready highways for the people of Suffolk.

You will need

  • A solid technical foundation with a Level 3 qualification in an engineering discipline and developing skills in AutoCAD GIS and data management systems.
  • An analytical and detailfocused mindset.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Good organisational and planning abilities.
  • A flexible proactive and safetyconscious approach with the ability to adapt to new challenges.

The team

You will be working within the team responsible for the inspection maintenance and construction of highway structures working in collaboration with the Highway Services Contractor and their supply chain partners. The team is responsible for inspecting and assessing a wide range of structures throughout the County and for prioritising developing and implementing maintenance and strengthening works required to ensure that structures remain safe for use and fit for purpose
