We are looking for anight news subeditor.Working across print and digital platforms youll ensure our global coverage remains sharp and accurate. Youll handle a steady stream of tasks from fitting copy for the newspaper to managing international network fronts and optimising content for SEO. The role blends traditional subbing with digital production including multimedia curation and style oversight.

This is a 6 month FTC or staff secondment with a 3-night week working pattern.

About the role

  • Subedit and publish copy for print and web
  • Write engaging furniture online and in print
  • Fit copy for newspaper stories
  • Edit the UK International Europe and Australia network fronts
  • Add pictures and multimedia elements to content
  • Assign keywords and write SEO-friendly web headlines
  • Ensure copy conforms to Guardian style
  • Create and/or edit picture galleries polls and quizzes video and audio pages
  • More experienced subeditors may also asked to revise copy for print and web

About you

  • Subbing and production experience ideally both online and print
  • Expertise in using InDesign and InCopy and/or web tools for editing
  • Demonstrable enthusiasm for and interest in print and web journalism
  • Excellent subbing skills with a meticulous eye for detail
  • Ability to handle writers copy sensitively
  • Familiarity with house style
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Ideally youll have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to this role
