The 11th Grade SAT Prep Teacher plays a critical role in preparing students for postsecondary success by building the academic readiness test performance and postsecondary awareness required to make strong choices in 12th grade and beyond. This role focuses on two core areas: SAT preparation (via Winward Academy) and academic skill-building and guided exploration and planning through the postsecondary wishlist-building process.
The CCR Teacher ensures students are academically prepared to meet key SAT benchmarks for high school graduation readiness (890) college readiness (1010) and competitive postsecondary programs (1250) while also supporting students to develop a clear informed postsecondary plan aligned to their strengths interests and goals.
This role requires strong content knowledge skilled data-driven instruction and the ability to motivate and support diverse learners toward ambitious outcomes.
Heres what youll be doing:
SAT Preparation & Academic Instruction
- Deliver rigorous SAT-aligned instruction in EBRW and Math using data to identify gaps adjust pacing and accelerate growth.
- Prepare students to meet differentiated SAT benchmarks () through tiered instruction targeted practice and intervention during 45 minute SAT prep block 4-5 days per week.
- Build students test-taking strategies confidence and stamina through consistent practice and feedback.
- Provide additional support to students who need it during after-school office hours.
Postsecondary Exploration & Wishlist Development
- Guide students in researching evaluating and building postsecondary wishlists aligned to academic performance interests and long-term goals.
- Teach how admissions criteria selectivity cost and outcomes shape postsecondary options in collaboration with counselors and KIPP Forward staff.
Data-Driven Practice & Collaboration
- Monitor student progress toward SAT benchmarks and postsecondary readiness goals and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Collaborate with school teams and communicate progress and recommendations to students families and stakeholders.
Qualifications :

- Proficient in Microsoft Office (specifically Excel) Google Workspace assessment dashboards and student trackers
- Strong content knowledge in SAT Math and Evidence-Based Reading & Writing
- Demonstrated ability to improve student outcomes on standardized assessments

- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organization and planning skills

- Ability to work occasional evenings & weekends (eg 2-3 Saturdays throughout the year when there are SAT exams and chaperoning college tours with the 11th grade class)
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree required
- Candidates must demonstrate SAT content proficiency through one or more of the following:
- SAT score of 1150 (equivalent to 23 on ACT)
Nice-to-Haves
- 2 years of experience teaching or tutoring secondary-level math and/or ELA preferably with SAT or college readiness focus
- Certified to teach high school in NJ
- Demonstrated success preparing students for standardized assessments
- Experience in a college access college counseling or college readiness program
- Experience supporting first-generation or historically underserved students
- Familiarity with postsecondary prep & advising platforms (e.g. Winward College Board Overgrad)
- Prior experience in a KIPP or student-focused & outcomes-driven environment
Additional Information :
KIPP NJ offers competitive salaries to newly hired lead teachers. Salaries are based on prior experience and in accordance with certification requirements. KIPP NJ offers a competitive salary range of $63000-$101000 for teacher positions with additional opportunities for earning up to $5500 annually in performance-based pay.
