Responsibilities
- Collaborate withSummer Art Yard Supervisor to ensure all camp environments meet the needs of our campers by implementing behaviour managementtechniques andprovide supporttoall camp staff to feel empowered tomanagecamper behaviours.
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all campers and staff during camp hours by proactively taking mitigating actions recommending adaptive programming behavioural plans and arrangement ofappropriate support/furtheraction (in coordination with Summer Art Yard Supervisor).
- Respond to inquiries and resolve escalated concerns from camp staff and parents/guardians as well as behavioural crisis and emergency situations.
- Communicate with parents/guardiansregardingbehavioural updatesimprovements escalations and incidents with diplomacy and tact
- SupportJunior and Seniorcamp sites daily to ensure camps are following allAurora Cultural Centrepoliciesandproceduresas well asprovide suggestions to improve the quality of our camp services and behaviour management techniques.
- Responsible for the collection and administrative organization of waivers in-takeformsand incident reports.
- Plan and coordinate camp programs through the preparation of Camp Binders and forms delivering camp equipment on-site as needed updating staff manuals and resources and providing behaviour management strategies.
- Assistwith the development and delivery of a training program for camp staff.
- Assistwith the necessary research development and implementation of training for camp program adaptation.
- Create and distribute visual support tools and zones of regulation based on information provided by parents/guardians and camp staff as well as observations during site visits.
- Assistswith overseeing and supporting staff including scheduling coachingandperformance reviewsin coordination with Summer Art Yard Supervisor and Education team.
- Create behaviour management aids and tools such as fidget kits sensory binsfirst-then boards visual schedules token boardsetc.
- Collaborate with the Education Manager teamand Cultural Centre core staff on summer outreach initiatives and other duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience Necessary
- Experience working with childrenand youthin recreational delivery settings including persons with disabilities and implementing/consulting others on behaviour managementstrategies.
- Ability to work in a team environment collaborate with co-workers and deal courteously and effectively with staff participants parents/guardiansand thegeneral public.
- Excellent leadership organizational public relations and time management skills.
- Excellent communication skillsmaintainingappropriate communicationchannels safety and trust within team.
- Highly observant to children/youth emotional needs and interpersonal relationship changes in the classroom taking mitigating actions and applying corrective actionin a timely manner.
- Ability toeffectively and quickly direct the attention/focus of a cohort of upto 24 campers.
- Awareness of ethical considerations in art education such as inclusivity cultural appropriation self-expression and sustainability.
- Experience with arts programming education and administration considered an asset.
Conditions of Employment
- Monday-Friday daytime hours*(8:30am to 4:30pm)*with the exception ofa few weekend outreach engagementsidentifiedat the start of the season.
- Camp programming runs nine (9) weeks of the summer.
- Camp employment concludes the Friday before Labour Day.
- Participation in the Aurora Cultural Centres exciting public events such as Canada Day and Street Fair Festival.
- Required to work outside in short durations in high heat environments.
- Light physical activity (lifting upto 50lbs).
- Sitting at desk for extended periods of time.
- Provide on-site support to camps.
- Must be able to meet set programming deadlines.
- Loud/high stimulus in camp studio environment.
- Work involves mental and visual concentration with frequent interruptions.
- High volume of social and interpersonal interactionrequired.
- Projection of voice and direction of attentionrequired.
Requirements
- Aged between 16 and 30 years old.
- Eligible to work in Ontario (mustpossessa valid social insurance number).
- Hold a proper residency status which includes being a Canadian Citizen permanent resident or person with valid refugee status in Canada (as defined by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act).
As some funding sources require that recipients plan to return to an educational institution in September 2026 pleaseindicateyour intentions in your cover letter.

- International students.
- Non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in related discipline such asSocial WorkRecreation and with progressive experience in recreation programming and/or equivalent combination.
- Minimum one year of supervisory experience (children/youth camp setting considered an asset).
- Emergency First Aid and CPR-C Certification (AED training an asset.)
- Vulnerable Sector Checkrequired(reimbursed with receipt).
- High Five Principles of Healthy Child Developmentrequired.
- Behaviour Management Systems Safe ManagementorNon-violentCrisis Prevention and Intervention certificationrequired.
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite for creating program materials and reports etc.
- Valid drivers license and access to a vehicle considered an asset.
- Full attendance at pre-camp training/onboarding.
Please Note: Certifications are notrequiredat time of application but must be obtained prior to job commencement. The Aurora Cultural Centre may offer opportunities for certification.
