Job Summary
A well-established good-rated secondary school with sixth form in Barking is seeking to appoint a committed and knowledgeable Sociology Teacher for a full-time position starting in September. The Role
The successful candidate will take responsibility for delivering Sociology at Key Stage 5 with the potential to contribute to humanities teaching at Key Stage 4 depending on experience. Lessons should be engaging academically challenging and designed to encourage independent thinking and analysis.
You will play an active role in helping students develop critical awareness of social structures institutions and inequalities while supporting them in achieving strong examination outcomes.
Daily responsibilities will include lesson planning marking assessment and supporting students in preparation for coursework and examinations. The role also includes participation in departmental meetings and contributing to curriculum development where required.
Key Duties
Responsibilities within this role will include:
Delivering high-quality Sociology lessons aligned with examination board requirements
Supporting students in developing analytical evaluative and essay-writing skills
Planning structured lessons that promote discussion debate and critical thinking
Monitoring student progress and identifying strategies to support improvement
Preparing students effectively for assessments and final examinations
Contributing to departmental planning and resource development
Supporting enrichment activities including revision sessions or subject-related events
Maintaining high expectations for behaviour attendance and academic performance
Promoting safeguarding and student wellbeing in line with school policies
Candidate Profile

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
