Job Summary

Summary:
The Specialist 2 Communications and Electronics will serve as the districts telecommunications resident expert. The Specialist 2 Communications and Electronics will provide technical support for additional low voltage components including intercom public address and stage lighting systems.

Responsibilities:
Coordinates with planning and construction all scheduled telecommunications and low voltage projects.

Troubleshoots complex technical problems that impacts district telephone services and provide problem resolution.

Serves as lead for all telecommunications special projects. Serves as telecommunications liaison for both internal and external business partners.

Serves as primary point-of-contact for maintenance and new construction of telephone support services for 9500 telephone circuits with the contracted dial tone provider (PAETEC Inc.) Verizon SUNCOM and the Florida State Department of Management Services.

Assists in the development of department specifications for an assure ongoing compliance by attending preconstruction and work in progress meetings at construction and renovation sites.

Performs final inspections of new and renovated sites to assure contractor compliance to specifications and to verify that any previously existing systems have not been damaged by work performed.

Researches prepares and presents telecommunications projects and system plans for management and senior staff develops recommendations for new equipment and assist Procurement Department with the preparation of FRP FRQ ITQ and ITB proposals.

Understands and interprets schematic and architectural drawings and assures compliance with established specifications.

Tests and diagnose complex systems and assist technicians in diagnosing problems correcting recurring failures etc.

Provides quality assurance on daily work performed by district personnel and contracted services while developing a comprehensive district training program.

Provides technical direction and training to department personnel.

Maintains safe proper and efficient operation of systems within responsibility area of assigned department.

Exercises proactive leadership in promoting the vision and mission of the district.

Performs any other duties as assigned.

Experience: Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in telecommunications and low voltage repair. Successful completion of one (1) year of an accredited college or university course work (30 semester hours) may substitute for one (1) year of the experience requirement. Substitution may not exceed two (2) years of the experience requirement.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Possesses a current Florida Class E drivers license.

Language Skills: Reads and interprets documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instruction and procedure manuals. Writes routine reports and correspondence. Speaks effectively before groups of individuals.

Mathematical Skills: Calculates figures and amounts such as discounts interest commissions proportions percentages area circumference and volume. Applies concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability: Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.

Computer Skills: Microsoft Office.

Lifting Demands: Up to 35 pounds.

Reaching Activities: Both Dominant and non-dominant hand; overhead.

Environmental Conditions: Noise Intensity: 4 loud; extreme cold extreme heat wet/humid vibration/impact; work with or near heavy equipment.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: This position requires traveling to various school sites work locations and or community organizations throughout the district.
