PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Responsible for on-site leadership and supervision of perform skilled work in construction alteration repair and installation of HVAC and automation controls throughout the district. Assist Director of Maintenance to maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so it may be fully used at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education:

High school diploma or equivalent

Certification / License:

Clear and valid Texas drivers license

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Specific knowledge of craft used in building repair and maintenance including heating ventilation air conditioning and automation controls.

Knowledge of HVAC repairs maintenance and installation techniques

Knowledge of equipment materials methods practices and tools used in HVAC and automation controls.

Knowledge of HVAC codes

General knowledge of other crafts used in building repair and maintenance

Ability to read and interpret blueprints diagrams schematics and written reference material

Organizational communication customer service and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position

Understand follow and/or transmit oral and written instructions

Measure and perform mathematical calculations

Work independently; self-motivated detail oriented and to be able to carry out assignments independently

Perform basic computer skills

Diagnose and resolve problems

Work Conditions:

Tools/Equipment Used: Electrical measuring and testing equipment; welding equipment; hand tools; power tools; hoist; plumbing tools and equipment including pipe bender propane torch; hand tools; power tools; heavy equipment including forklift trencher backhoe; light truck or van

Posture: Frequent standing kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
Motion: Frequent walking climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding grasping/squeezing wrist flexion/extension and overhead reaching; frequent driving
Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis
Environment: Work outside and inside on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; may work on rooftops; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures dust toxic chemicals and materials noise vibration and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; work around gas lines; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; may work irregular and prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress

Regular attendance is an essential function

Minimum Experience:

Three years experience working in the HVAC trade- required

Two years working in a supervisory role- preferred

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Assign work to craft personnel and oversee completion. Initiate contract repair when work cannot be performed by district staff.
  2. Monitor the work and issue work assignments to HVAC and Automation Controls.
  3. Assign priority to work orders and process them.
  4. Maintain simple logs and records and generate required reports
  5. Work cooperatively with principals and facilities managers to schedule and complete repairs.
  6. Estimate cost of repair of projects including labor materials and other related costs.
  7. Perform repairs; supervise and assist skilled workers to complete repairs as needed.
  8. Inspect all district buildings and facilities and initiate repairs as needed.
  9. Conduct on-site inspection of completed repair projects. Monitor and inspect contract work.
  10. Provide training and orientation to all skilled workers in safety procedures and proper use of tools and equipment.
  11. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing.
  12. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  13. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
  14. Follow established procedures for locking checking and safeguarding facilities.
  15. Prepare implement and maintain schedules for tools and equipment. Ensure equipment is in safe operating condition. Recommend replacement of existing equipment when necessary.
  16. Conduct regular inventory of physical equipment and supplies and maintain accurate records. Order tools equipment and supplies as needed.
  17. Respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed.
  18. Assist in the preparation of department budget.
  19. Assist in recruiting screening selection training and evaluation of employees within the HVAC and Automation Control department.
  20. Maintain accurate information for payroll reporting (timecards tardiness and absenteeism).
  21. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  22. Abide by State and Federal laws District policies campus expectations and Texas Educator Code of Ethics.
  23. Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
