Job Summary

Job Title: Special Education Assistant Transition Coordinator

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Reports to: Director of Special Education/Coordinator of TX Works

Dept./School: Special Education/Multiple TX Works campuses

Position Summary:

Assist the Transition Coordinator in providing special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth. Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to student ability levels. Systematically create transition goals for each student.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification

  • Must have a bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university preferably in the area of Special Education

Experience

  • 3 years of experience working with students or adults with disabilities

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Must have a passion for students especially students with disabilities
  • Must have the ability and patience to work interactively with students especially students with disabilities
  • Advance knowledge of special education transition planning and implementation
  • Advanced knowledge of and compliance with the Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) committee process
  • Ability to maintain documentation of special education services
  • Advanced proficiency in implementing multiple and diverse programs including computer-based instruction Excel Word Acrobat and internet-based document resources and storage
  • Ability to communicate effectively with and receive guidance from the Transition Coordinator and the Special Education Director
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of students with disabilities their parents the community peers administrative staff campus directors superintendents and corporate staff as needed
  • Must have the ability to transition with district campus and/or department changes
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with and receive guidance from a supervisor
  • Must have the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Must have the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
  • Must have the ability to travel as necessary

Preferred KSAs

  • 5 years of experience maintaining and supporting Special Education Services for school-aged children
  • 5 years of experience maintaining and supporting Charter or Public School programs for children with special needs

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist Transition Coordinator in planning and implementing an individualized intervention plan designed to meet specific targeted instruction for struggling students
  • Recommend sound policies to improve the program
  • Assist Transition Coordinator in compiling and maintaining all reports records and other documents required by law and/or the Director of Special Education Coordinator of Special Education and/or Transition Coordinator
  • Plan the necessary time resources and materials to support general education teachers in accomplishing educational goals of students receiving special education services
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment
  • May supervise licensed speech-language pathology assistants or speech aides
  • Perform special projects during and after normal business hours and other duties as assigned
  • May travel as necessary
  • Write transition plans for students
  • Completes SPP 13 checklist for all transition plans
  • Assist with parent teacher and staff contact for transition as needed
  • Attend ARDs as needed
  • Offer regular parent informational sessions regarding student transition
  • Coordinates with outside resources and CTE when attendance is needed at ARDs
  • Attends SPED team meetings and faculty meetings as needed
