JOB TITLE:

Research Professor Assistant

JOB PURPOSE:

The Wyoming Institute for Disabilities (WIND) is an academic unit within the College of Health Sciences and houses a small interdisciplinary faculty. A key faculty role is that of Research Professor Assistant who is responsible for developing and implementing a robust program of research. Areas of interest at WIND include autism developmental disabilities family supports screening psychometrics rural healthcare implementation science applied science public health research and other areas related to improving the lives of those with disabilities. This position may also have opportunities to support evaluation of key programs in our department as well as numerous opportunities through our national network which can serve as catalysts for research innovations. Candidates should have either a strong track record of extramural funding or clear potential to secure funding for research and other projects. Candidates should have strong methodological skills relevant to his/her/their areas of expertise as well as capabilities to develop additional skills in quantitative and/or qualitative analysis. Research Professors are academic professionals whose primary responsibilities are to conduct and support research. UW Regulation 2-7 describes the activities that fall into this set of responsibilities for faculty; the same definition of research applies to Academic Professionals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct research and evaluation to improve research programs meet contract and grant deliverables pursue WIND research objectives and help guide statewide policy and planning.
  • Contribute to contract and grant proposals to leverage additional funding to support for WIND research agenda.
  • Establish a strong publication record of peer reviewed journals articles and funding applications. Research productivity expectations are commensurate with career level but we would expect at least 2-3 articles and 2-3 grant applications per year initially.
  • Actively participate in departmental college and university committees.
  • Complete professional development opportunities to expand/enhance understanding of the field of intellectual/developmental disabilities your academic discipline and/or research and evaluation.
  • Independently develop grant and contract submissions in line with the WIND research agenda and individual research interests.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: PhD in relevant social science health science or public health field.

Experience:

  • Experience with primary research data analysis manuscript preparation and other essential research skills
  • Progressive experience in research environments

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with community-based participatory research community action research or related methodologies
  • Proficiency with SPSS SAS R STATA MaxQDA or related statistical/qualitative analysis software
  • Experience preparing grant proposals
  • Author of peer-reviewed articles and contributions to expert knowledge of relevant subjects
