Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Nursing or related area from an accredited college

Valid Texas Medical License

Masters Degree in Administration or related area preferred

Five years of experience as a public school nurse (or other school medical professional)

Knowledge of Texas Board of Nursing and the Standards of Nursing Practice

Knowledge of communicable disease control measures

Knowledge of current medical healthcare needs

Knowledge of school health requirements and procedures

Ability to interpret policy procedures and data

Ability to manage budget and personnel

Ability to direct coordinate train and evaluate the health services delivery system

Strong organizational technology communication and interpersonal skills

Excellent writing skills

Primary Purpose:

Provide leadership in the development implementation and coordination of a comprehensive program of health services to the district including the supervision of nurses and clinic assistants. Participate in health services policy formulation and decision making. Monitor and ensure health care delivery according to district regulations and the Texas Board of Nursing Standards of Practice.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure policies and procedures adhere to legal and regulatory requirements per the Texas Board of Nursing and Katy ISD policies and procedures.
  2. Collaborate with local and state health departments to monitor and manage communicable diseases in schools and develop and participate in disease prevention and outbreak management programs within schools.
  3. Implement guidelines and procedures to adhere to a variety of reporting and to ensure compliance with federal state and district health laws and mandates.
  4. Represent department at district/community meetings.
  5. Assess professional development needs and create annual professional development training to ensure optimal professional growth of staff members.
  6. Direct and manage the department and services to meet identified needs.
  7. Prepare and monitor a departmental budget in an effective and efficient manner.
  8. Provide guidance resources and materials necessary to support departmental staff in meeting district and departmental goals.
  9. Provide guidance resources and training for department staff related to student health issues.
  10. Utilize data to prepare and support recommendations for campus-based staffing.
  11. Supervise and evaluate the job performance of departmental employees and make employment recommendations.
  12. Plan coordinate and evaluate departmental services in areas of responsibility.
  13. Manage the collection and verification of data necessary for PEIMS submission in areas of responsibility as required.
  14. Research and pursue external funding opportunities to enhance local initiatives.
  15. Communicate with internal and external stakeholders regarding department programs and services.
  16. Establish connections with local health care providers.
  17. Provide information and resources to the school community regarding prevention of illness and health management.
  18. Provide guidance and planning for medical emergency situations in the district.
  19. Interpret implement and promote school health policies regarding immunizations communicable disease medication emergency care of the ill and injured required screenings Type 2 Diabetes management health education and maintenance of healthy school environment.
  20. Collaborate with other departments to promote effective and efficient planning for students health care needs.
  21. Consult with campus-based staff to gather information needed to compile and submit mandated reports of the school health program to Texas Department of State Health Services and the Texas Education Agency.
  22. Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of current trends and best practices in school health.

Working Conditions:

Work with frequent interruptions frequent district travel exposure to communicable diseases maintain emotional control under stress. Moderate lifting. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
