This is a twelvemonth tenuretrack faculty position in the UW-Stevens Point College of Natural Resources (CNR) that also serves as an affiliated Extension specialist with the UW-Madison Division of Extensions Natural Resources Institute. The successful candidate will integrate applied research technical assistance and community engagement with Extension while supporting the CNRs undergraduate education and outreach mission. As part of the faculty and staff team within the Center for Watershed Science and Education (CWSE) this position is expected to assist communities and other stakeholders in the investigation and management of current and emerging water resource concerns in Wisconsin and the surrounding region.

The Fisheries and Water Resources Discipline is in the College of Natural Resources at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point ( It has approximately 1585 undergraduates 50 graduate students and over 120 faculty and staff. The Fisheries and Water Resources Discipline is currently home to the Wisconsin Cooperative Fishery Research Unit (USGS) the Aquatic Biomonitoring Laboratory the Center for Watershed Science and Education and several joint research efforts with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources including the Fisheries Analysis Center. The College supports premier undergraduate natural resource programs with disciplines in Fisheries and Water Resources Forestry Environment and Society Soil and Waste Resources Wildlife Ecology and the Department of Paper Science and Chemical Engineering.

Compensation:

$73000 minimum annually based on qualifications and experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in a water resources-related field such as hydrology hydrogeology watershed management environmental engineering or allied field by the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop an applied research program that provides water quality management information that is useful to Wisconsin communities individuals and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to lay audiences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience or ability to conduct outreach activities and programming for targeted audiences related to water resources.
  • Experience with undergraduate teaching and/or mentoring of students in research.
  • Experience integrating hands-on techniques such as field-based measurements or analytical instrumentation into coursework and applied water quality research.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate geographical information systems spatial analysis or data visualization skills into research and Extension products.
