Job Summary

The Inventory Specialist is responsible for managing and maintaining accurate records for the Department of Veteran Affairs Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy (CMOP). The CMOP utilizes a combination of automated and manual procedures to prepare and dispense Over The Counter (OTC) and legend drug prescriptions controlled substance prescriptions bulk type prescriptions and medical/surgical products directly by mail to patients. The nature of services includes the operation and support of automated and manual filling equipment and the preparation of prescription orders for mail-out dispensing. This role ensures that inventory levels are sufficient to meet business needs while minimizing excess or obsolete stock. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented and proficient in monitoring inventory transactions and reconciling discrepancies.This is a fulltime position and the hours are 6:00AM - 8:00 PM Monday through Friday 8-hour shifts with staggered start times.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Restocking and accounting of items stored in various locations.
  • Compiling and maintaining records identifying types of supplies and suggesting re-order points for revolving stock.
  • Maintains inventories of drugs and supplies stocking shelves rotating stock and checking expiration date of pharmaceuticals
  • Fills/stocks medications in various automated devices and storage locations. Track record and maintain inventory levels in the system. Monitor incoming and outgoing shipments to ensure accuracy.
  • Reconcile inventory discrepancies and address issues promptly.
  • Operate various types of pharmacy automation including but not limited to Autofill devices; Baker Cells; Kalish cells A-frames; repackaging equipment; electronic scales.
  • Read computer screens use scanning equipment select specific drugs/products required to fill an order by name strength and National Drug Code (NDC) number.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to understand how to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Proficiency using computer and basic typing skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse employee population including all levels of management and staff.

Education and Experience:

  • High School (HS) or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required.
  • At least four (4) years of relevant experience.
  • Previous experience working in a pharmacy is a plus.
  • Must be able to pass background checks.
  • Current and valid drivers license.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds when required
  • Push or pull up to 150 pounds on a rolling cart or using a pallet jack
  • Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time (8-10 hours) stoop reach upward and withstand various types of repetitive motion inherent in the various tasks to be performed
