APPOINTMENT OF AN INDEPENDENT SPECIALIST AUDIT AND RISK COMMITTEE MEMBER
The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) is a regulatory body established in terms of the Civil Aviation Act No. 13 of 2009. The SACAA Board is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced candidate as an independent specialist member of its AUDIT AND RISK COMMITTEE a committee of the board.
We invite applications from suitably qualified and experienced professionals to serve as an Independent Specialist Member of the AUDIT AND RISK COMMITTEE.
Purpose of the Role
The Independent Member will contribute to the effectiveness of the Audit and Risk Committee by assisting with providing independent oversight strategic input and expert advice on financial and performance management governance risk management ICT internal audit combined assurance and internal control processes. The role is critical in strengthening accountability transparency assurance governance and compliance within SACAA.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- A relevant three-year degree
- A postgraduate qualification in Accounting and/or Auditing
- Professional registration as one of the following:
*Chartered Accountant (CA(SA))
*Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
*Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must demonstrate:
- A minimum of eight (8) years relevant experience in two or more of the following areas and at least 5 years senior management experience in any of two of the following areas:
*Financial Management
*Internal Audit
*External Audit
*Corporate Governance
*Risk Management - In-depth knowledge and practical application of:
*The Public Finance Management Act (PFMA)
*National Treasury Regulations - Applicable accounting standards (e.g. GRAP IFRS)
- Proven experience in engaging with Audit and/or Risk Committees
- A demonstrated track record of service on an Audit Committee and/or Board of Directors
- Experience within the aviation sector will be an added advantage

- Strong knowledge of governance frameworks accounting standards and risk management principles
- Sound understanding of internal control systems and processes

- Proven leadership and strategic advisory capability
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
GENERAL INFORMATION
- Appointment will be made by the SACAA Board of Directors for a fixed term and confirmed by the Minister of Transport as the Executive Authority at the Annual General Meeting
- Members will be remunerated for preparation and attendance of meetings in line with rates determined by the Minister of Transport from time to time
- A specialist member is not a Board member as defined in the Civil Aviation Act and as appointed by the Minister but serves in the committee for the purposes outlined above.
